airgpu Creators Introduce CloudDeck

Cloud Deck Service Banner

airgpu has announced the launch of its new cloud gaming service, CloudDeck, which seems to be a “Steam Deck on the cloud”. The service makes use of SteamOS and Big Picture Mode to provide a more console-like experience, allowing users to transform any device into a full gaming console. Players can enjoy the latest games at high settings on laptops and smartphones without needing to purchase new hardware.

CloudDeck supports over 15,000 games from Steam, which need to be already owned. Players can use devices they already own, eliminating the need for upgrades. The service allows for gaming on the go, with support for controllers, touchscreens, and mouse and keyboard setups. Additionally, users can install their favorite mods.

So how does this work?

To get started, users need to sign up for a subscription and connect to their cloud gaming console via Moonlight, a free game streaming app. After installing their games, they can start playing immediately. CloudDeck’s servers ensure low latency, providing a native gaming experience whether at home or on the go.

As of now, CloudDeck is currently available in Europe, and plans to expand to North America later in 2024. The Launch plan costs €19.99 and offers:

  • 4 CPU Cores, 8 Threads at up to 3.7 GHz
  • AMD Radeon RX 6600 or similar
  • 16 GB RAM
  • 250 GB SSD
  • Streaming at up to 1080p 60 FPS
  • SteamOS experience
  • Access to 15,000+ supported games
  • 4-hour session limit with no monthly time limit

It is important to remember that just like the regular Steam Deck, the service supports games that run natively under Linux and Windows games via Proton or Wine. Mainly because SteamOS is based on that operative system. CloudDeck recommends users to check out this list of compatible games.

The bottom line

While some may think that the price is too high for the settings offered, CloudDeck seems to be a great alternative to airgpu’s “pay per use” model. It also seems to be a competitor for cloud services such as Shadow PC, who already offer a monthly fee.
