Amazon Luna’s October Prime Games: A Haunting Hodgepodge of Digital Delights

Ah, October. The month when pumpkin spice infiltrates every corner of existence and gamers eagerly await their treat bag from the Amazon overlords. Oh, and Amazon Luna has added new games for Prime members! Let’s rummage through this digital goodie bucket, shall we?

The “Eclectic is an Understatement” Lineup

Alien: Isolation

Nothing says “Happy Halloween” like being stalked by a xenomorph. It’s like playing hide-and-seek with your cat, if your cat were seven feet tall and had acid for blood. Cuddles, anyone?

Mortal Shell

For those who find Dark Souls too cuddly and their controllers insufficiently broken. Perfect for masochists or anyone who thinks “git gud” is a legitimate life philosophy.

Dusk

A retro-style shooter that answers the question, “What if Quake had a torrid love affair with H.P. Lovecraft’s nightmares?” Spoiler: it looks like this, apparently.

Perish

Another game where you die a lot, because clearly, that’s what we all need more of in our lives. Set in purgatory, which is coincidentally where most gamers feel they are while waiting for the next big release.

Tormented Souls

Survival horror that makes navigating a DMV seem like a delightful afternoon stroll. At least at the DMV, the monsters aren’t actively trying to eat you… usually.

Amid Evil

Wield magical weapons to defeat evil forces, because swinging a sword made of galaxies is totally a balanced and reasonable game mechanic. It’s what I imagine a migraine looks like if it were weaponized.

Valfaris

A metal-infused side-scrolling shooter louder than your neighbor’s 3 AM “amateur drummer” sessions. Perfect for those who think their hearing is just too darned intact.

Doomblade

Hack and slash your way through a dystopian future. It’s like trying to cancel a subscription service, but with more swords and marginally less frustration.

Monster Harvest

Farming sim meets monster collection. Finally, a game that combines the thrill of watching virtual crops grow with the excitement of collecting creatures that could probably eat said crops.

Dr. Fetus’ Mean Meat Machine

With a name like that, it’s either a twisted puzzle game or a very unfortunate Tinder bio. Either way, it’s certain to be an experience you’ll struggle to explain to non-gaming friends.

Remember that Prime subscribers can play Fortnite, Trackmania, XDefiant and many more games on Luna.

Final Thoughts

Look, I’m not saying Amazon pulled names out of a hat to create this month’s lineup, but if they did, at least it was a very big, weird hat. From cosmic horror to whatever the hell Dr. Fetus is cooking up, October’s games are a real potpourri of “Sure, why not?”.

Will you find your new gaming obsession here? Maybe. Will you download at least three of these, play for 20 minutes, and then forget about them until your hard drive screams for mercy? Absolutely.

But hey, that’s the beauty of these Prime game drops. It’s like a digital version of dumpster diving behind a GameStop – you never know what you’ll find, but you’re definitely going to need a shower afterwards.

Now excuse me while I go clear my schedule. I’ve got some virtual lockers to hide in and mutant vegetables to harvest. And if you need me, I’ll be the one crying in the corner after my 47th death in Mortal Shell. Happy gaming, you masochists.

Renier Palland

Renier is a jack of all trades and a master of some. A published author and poet, Renier understands the art of weaving a narrative, or so the critics say. As a professional overreactor and occasional debater of existentialist philosophy, Renier thrives on games where choices actually matter, e.g. Life Is Strange, Mass Effect, and Heavy Rain. Renier often finds himself in a game of throes on GeForce NOW, sobbing like a Sicilian widow because life is definitely way too strange sometimes.
