Usually, when we report on news in relation to game development studios, it is about them laying off staff or being closed down.
So it is very much a welcome change to report on a new gaming studio being opened! The company behind this is Amazon Games as they have opened a brand new development studio in Bucharest, Romania.
Amazon has used the news of the new studios opening to reaffirm their commitment to both developing and publishing video games from the Amazon Games brand.
“Amazon Games is focused on developing and publishing great games, and we have an ambitious long-term roadmap in front of us,” said Christoph Hartmann, VP of Amazon Games. “Expanding our internal development teams into Europe was a natural next step for us as we tackle our broad portfolio. Bucharest is known as one of the top emerging European cities for game development and we look forward to tapping into the rich talent pool.”
Industry veteran, Cristian Pana, will be heading up Amazon’s new Bucharest studio, he was most recently the head of Ubisoft’s studio in the same city and worked on many of their franchises including The Crew, Avatar, The Division and Far Cry.
I’m thrilled to join Amazon Games at a time when the team is actively building across an exciting roadmap,” said Cristian Pana, Studio Head for Amazon Games Bucharest. “I’ve built and led outstanding teams in the past and I know this area of Europe is a hot spot for some of the very best talent in gaming.”
Amazon has also confirmed that their studios are currently working on games from the Tomb Raider and Lord of The Rings franchises, as well as Throne of Liberty and two unannounced titles from their San Diego studio and Glowmade, which is an independent studio based in the United Kingdom.
