Atari and Ubisoft have announced an agreement that transfers the IP rights of five Ubisoft titles to Atari. The acquisition includes Cold Fear (2005), I Am Alive (2012), Child of Eden (2011), Grow Home (2015), and its sequel Grow Up (2016).
With this move, Atari aims to reintroduce the games on new platforms. They will explore opportunities to expand their reach with updated content and modern publishing tools. The company also noted it will look into extended distribution. This could include cloud platforms, giving these games access to wider audiences without the need for dedicated hardware.
Comments from Ubisoft and Atari
Deborah Papiernik, Vice President of New Business at Ubisoft, highlighted the opportunity for both returning fans and new audiences: “Millions of players have experienced these worlds over the years. This will open the door for long-time players to revisit those memories while inviting new audiences to discover them for the first time.”
Atari CEO Wade Rosen emphasized the shared vision between the two companies: “Ubisoft and Atari both have a legacy of crafting worlds that players can fall in love with. Games that resonate with generations of players not just for how they played, but for how they made us feel.”
Atari will oversee the re-releases under its publishing label. There is potential for expanded distribution, refreshed content, and adaptations to new platforms. No timeline for the re-releases has been confirmed yet.
