A recent post by Xbox news source Klobrille has brought to the attention of Cloud Dosage that the Avowed game director, Carrie Patel, has left Obsidian Entertainment after twelve years to work at Netflix’s internal game studio Night School Studio.

What Does This Mean?:
With Avowed being a critical and commercial success for Obsidian Entertainment, the fact that Carrie Patel, who was the game director, was stolen away by Netflix Games shouldn’t be a surprise. Netflix has a complicated history of convincing developers to leave their studios to go and work for Netflix’s game studios; however, Netflix’s business strategy of moving fast and failing fast has led to high-profile developers like Joseph Staten leaving the company. The announcement of Carrie’s departure from Obsidian was announced on her LinkedIn, which now states that as of May 2025, she is working for Night School Studio, a Netflix game studio.
The studio Carrie has moved to is especially interesting as Night School Studio is arguably the most high-profile game studio under Netflix Games, as Night School is behind successful indie titles like “Afterparty” as well as the “Oxenfree” game series. We currently have no news on what project Carrie Patel is developing under Night School Studio, but we at Cloud Dosage wish her the best of luck with her future projects.
