One of Antstream Arcade’s biggest supporters is the game publisher known as Atari (who also happens to own 10% of Antstream). So in this editorial, we will review the best Atari-published games on Antstream Arcade. Now there is a bit of confusion here due to the Atari name being the name of five gaming platforms on Antstream. Still, not every game on Atari 8-bit Computers, Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800, and Atari Lynx is published by Atari. Let’s dive in!
Berzerk (Arcade):
You are trapped in a maze being pursued by robots as an evil bouncing smiley face known as Evil Otto, who is unkillable. Will you be able to escape the maze and defeat the robots and Evil Otto who will constantly tell you “Chicken Fight Like Robot”? This game is a recent acquisition by Atari who picked up the rights to Berzerk as well as eleven other games in March 2023. This is also the first video game to include voice synthesis. Berzerk is one of the best early arcade games and it’s definitely worth checking out.
Ninja Golf (Atari 7800):
The next game is a classic golf game but with a twist! In Ninja Golf, you play as a Ninja who is just trying to enjoy a game of golf, but after every putt, you must fight through a wave of enemies to arrive at your ball to putt the ball again. This is one of the most interesting video games ever developed by Atari, especially when it comes to sports games. If you want to play a beat ’em up/golf game, then you should check out Ninja Golf.
Breakout (Atari 2600):
The next game on our list is an oldie, but it’s one of my personal favourites, Breakout. In this Atari 2600 port of the arcade game of the same name, you must use your paddle to hit a ball against a brick wall as you try to clear the level of the brick wall. How high can you get your score? Whilst this game hasn’t got the most thrilling gameplay or graphics, it does require quick reactions as you only have a limited number of lives.
Scrapyard Dog (Atari 7800):
This game is an underrated classic that many gamers may not realize exists, Scrapyard Dog. After the evil Mr. Big kidnaps your dog Scraps, you must use your platforming skills to find Scraps and get him home. This version of Scrapyard Dog was used to showcase how advanced the graphics were on the Atari 7800 back in 1990. Be warned, though, this game might look easy, but even the most seasoned gamers will struggle with this platformer.
Centipede (Arcade):
The next game on our list is one that many gamers will recognize, Centipede. In this game you must stop the alien centipede from reaching your base and killing you. Be careful where you shoot though, if you miss the head you will have multiple centipedes to shoot. You can also shoot at spiders who appear on the screen in order to get bonus points. How high will your score go? Are you skilled enough to take this game on?
Alien Brigade (Atari 7800):
The final game on our list comes from the Atari 7800 and it is nothing short of a classic, Alien Brigade. In this game, you must battle alien invaders who take control of the bodies of your allies. In this on-rail shooter, lock and load before blasting away the alien attackers as you progress through the levels. If you only play one game on this entire list, then this is the one I recommend the most.
