Full Development Focus Is Now On Mass Effect

Bioware has announced that the studio has undergone a restructuring that has resulted in many staff being moved on to other roles at EA. However, the statement provided also hints that some others may not have been able to transition to other roles.

They have also confirmed that the studio’s full focus is now on the development of the next Mass Effect title.

In a blog post, Bioware General Manager Gary McKay said the following:

In keeping with our fierce commitment to innovating during the development and delivery of Mass Effect, we have challenged ourselves to think deeply about delivering the best experience to our fans. We are taking this opportunity between full development cycles to reimagine how we work at BioWare.

Given this stage of development, we don’t require support from the full studio. We have incredible talent here at BioWare, and so we have worked diligently over the past few months to match many of our colleagues with other teams at EA that had open roles that were a strong fit.

Today’s news will see BioWare become a more agile, focused studio that produces unforgettable RPGs. We appreciate your support as we build a new future for BioWare.

He also confirmed that the next Mass Effect title is being developed under the leadership of Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts and Parrish Ley. All of which are veterans of the original Mass Effect Trilogy.

This announcement further reaffirms recent news that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has received its final update from Bioware. The game will not be monitored and only patched should any major bugs be reported.
