Game publisher Focus Entertainment has partnered with Blacknut, a leading cloud gaming provider. This partnership aims to launch its own exclusive channel on the Blacknut platform. The move marks the first time a game publisher will be able to offer premium content and engage directly with cloud gamers via Blacknut’s new dedicated channel feature.
With cloud gaming being the fastest-growing segment in the gaming distribution industry, Blacknut aims to allow both consumers and content owners to benefit from the multi-billion dollar cloud gaming market opportunity. The cloud gaming service market is expected to reach 500 million people by 2025. With revenue predicted to hit $8.2 billion, according to Newzoo.
Focus Entertainment’s new channel will showcase its unique editorial line, which includes critically acclaimed titles such as A Plague Tale: Innocence. The channel is set to launch in the second half of 2023. It will offer subscribers access to 20 curated titles from Focus Entertainment, with regular updates planned for the future. Some users might have noticed that this “publisher channel” sounds similar to Amazon Luna’s take on cloud gaming. Offering access to a specific selection of games from a publisher, in exchange for a monthly fee. For example, Amazon Luna currently offers titles from Ubisoft and Jackbox Games via their respective channels. Perhaps these publishers will soon join Blacknut too!
Blacknut continues to expand
Blacknut’s subscription-based offering already includes access to a growing catalog of over 500 premium PC and console games. Said games can be played via streaming technology on any connected device. The addition of publisher channels will offer players a new way to access more content and directly support their favorite developers and games. In addition, the channels will become “fan zones”. Providing a space for players and publishers to interact and access new content as social features are developed.
According to Nabil Laredj, VP Business Development and Licensing at Blacknut, the new publisher channels offer a real alternative to existing dominant platforms for publishers to monetize their games. The Blacknut application enables playing on the largest selection of devices. In a full hardware-agnostic approach for consumers, targeting homes and families with multiple devices.
Blacknut is quickly growing with many new partnerships. Including telecom operators, ISPs, OTT services, media companies, and device manufacturers like LG TV or Samsung TV. It is also worth mentioning that Blacknut is currently available in over 45 countries. Read the full press release here.
