Gearbox Software and 2K have just announced that Borderlands 4 release date has been pushed up. The game will now launch two weeks earlier than planned. We got our first look at the game back in December 2024 with the first official gameplay trailer. And now, the game’s new release date is set for September 12, 2025, moving up from the original September 26 launch.
The announcement came through an official social media post, where the studio thanked fans for their excitement. They also confirmed that development has progressed faster than expected. You’ll now get to explore Kairos even sooner—whether you’re a longtime Vault Hunter or new to the chaos.
To keep the momentum going, Gearbox and PlayStation announced a dedicated Borderlands 4 State of Play. The event takes place April 30 at 2pm PT / 5pm ET, streaming on PlayStation’s Twitch and YouTube channels. The event will feature over 20 minutes of gameplay, developer commentary, and new details on missions, loot, new Action Skills, and returning characters.
Creative Director Graeme Timmins and Senior Project Producer Anthony Nicholson will walk fans through a deep dive into the game’s world and mechanics—including a closer look at the mysterious Timekeeper antagonist.
Borderlands 4 was first revealed during February’s State of Play with an explosive launch trailer. Since then, fans have been eager to learn more—and now they’ll get their chance.
Borderlands 4 launches on September 12, 2025 on Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC. We’ll be covering everything shown during the Borderlands 4 State of Play, so be sure to check back for the full breakdown.
