Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 charges back into action with a campaign that takes risks and pushes the series’ boundaries. Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software and published by Activision, this latest entry drops you into the gritty landscape of the Gulf War era in the early 90s.

In this spoiler-free review, I’ll dive into what makes Black Ops 6 campaign worth the 8-10 hour investment, capturing the adrenaline-fueled gameplay, the surprises that define Black Ops, and how this campaign raises the bar for Call of Duty.

Gulf War Espionage Meets Black Ops Intensity

The Black Ops 6 campaign wastes no time throwing you into the thick of conflict. You play as Case, a shadowy character wrapped up in covert operations with missions stretching from Iraq’s deserts to urban centers in the U.S. The early ’90s Gulf War setting provides a backdrop that’s both intense and grounded, contrasting heavily with the supernatural twists that emerge. It’s a story of intrigue and espionage, blending historical references with the over-the-top Black Ops twists we’ve come to expect.

While the story leans into classic military themes, it stands out with unexpected moments that stray from the usual mission formula. Black Ops favourites like Frank Woods return, adding a sense of continuity that fans of the series will enjoy. Each mission feels distinct, offering action sequences that range from intense firefights to slower-paced segments that let you explore the environment and learn more about the story. The narrative’s pacing makes sure the intensity never fades, and every mission leaves you wondering what’s around the next corner.

Refining the Classic COD Experience

Black Ops 6 retains the fast-paced gunplay that makes this series so great, while introducing fresh mechanics. The new Omnimovement system is a game-changer, letting you shoot, jump, and move that feels both tactical and cinematic. Whether you’re firing from the hip or taking shots from a distance, Black Ops 6 keeps each encounter varied and satisfying.

Another key addition to gameplay is the weapon wheel, allowing you to quickly switch between a variety of gadgets. These include gear tailored for stealth, long-range combat, and close-quarter firefights. This freedom to adapt gives each mission a strategic edge and encourages replayability, as you can try different tactics and loadouts. Missions range in style and tone, some throwing you into chaotic, all-out battles, while others focus on stealth or puzzle-solving. There’s even a mission that takes place at a gala hosted by Bill Clinton—proof the campaign isn’t afraid to go big.

The Best Graphics in the Franchise Yet

Visually, Black Ops 6 may be the best-looking Call of Duty yet. Each setting, from the oil fields of Iraq to iconic U.S. locations looks fantastic. Environmental effects, like dust and debris kicked up in combat, make each setting feel dynamic and alive. Character models look more realistic than ever. Every texture feels gritty and tactile, adding to the overall immersion, though occasional frame drops do pop up in busier scenes. However, these issues are minor and don’t detract significantly from the experience.

From the first shot fired, the sound design in Black Ops 6 hits hard. Every gunshot, explosion, and voice line is crisp, adding an extra layer of intensity. Sniping particularly stands out, with each shot carrying an echo that makes you feel every ounce of power behind the rifle. Voice acting is solid across the board, with returning characters bringing familiarity and newcomers delivering lines that help the story stay grounded. Conversations flow naturally, ensuring you remain engaged even when things veer into Black Ops’ signature unpredictability.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s Campaign Raises The Bar for Call of Duty

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 brings a fresh spark to the franchise, with a campaign that strikes an ideal balance of classic and new elements. It has everything you’d expect—high-octane combat, a globe-spanning story, and, of course, Black Ops twists that keep you guessing. Each mission offers unique gameplay experiences that encourage you to approach each encounter in your way. Whether you’re a COD veteran or a new player, Black Ops 6’s campaign is one of the best in recent memory.

  1. Xbox Series S 🙋🏻‍♂️
A friend of mine lent me Black Ops II on PS3 a few years ago and I enjoyed it, but I’ve never played the campaign of the newer ones, I’ve only played Warzone and I’d like to enjoy a real CoD, not just a multiplayer mess

  2. PC. That’s the only platform I can currently play on. I was lucky enough to find an unused gamepass to try out the game. I played previous titles on Battle.net, same thing I guess.
