Nintendo’s Creator’s Voice video series continues this week with a behind-the-scenes look at Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition for Nintendo Switch 2. In this installment, CD Projekt RED’s Game Director, Adam Badowski and VP Technology, Charles Tremblay explain how they are bringing the dystopian streets of Night City to Nintendo’s new hardware—and what makes this version distinct.

This is the fifth Creator’s Voice feature following interviews with FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki on The Duskbloods, Supergiant Games on Hades II, Hazelight Studios on Split Fiction, and Avalanche Software on Hogwarts Legacy. Each week, the series highlights how studios are using Nintendo Switch 2’s capabilities to evolve their games—whether through upgraded visuals, motion controls, or tools like GameChat and VRR.

With Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition optimized for Switch 2, CD Projekt RED focused on delivering the same immersive storytelling, branching paths, and action-packed freedom the game is known for—now playable both docked and handheld. The team also added new ways to experience combat, including Joy-Con 2 support for melee weapons like the katana.

In this latest Creator’s Voice video, CD Projekt RED discusses the shift to first-person perspective, the importance of seamless storytelling, and how Switch 2 features like the new LCD display and on-the-go performance make Night City feel more alive than ever. Whether you’re a returning player or stepping into the City of Dreams for the first time, here’s what to expect from Cyberpunk 2077 on Nintendo Switch 2.

A Cyberpunk Experience Built for Switch 2

CD Projekt RED made it clear that Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition isn’t just running on Nintendo Switch 2—it’s designed to take advantage of it. One of the first things discussed is the role of immersion. The shift to first-person wasn’t just a design choice—it allowed the team to make conversations feel more personal, with close-up facial expressions and natural character movements that wouldn’t have worked in third-person.

Combat also sees new input options. You can use a single Joy-Con 2 to swing your katana, offering a motion-controlled take on melee. While it’s a small addition, it plays into the game’s flexibility—giving you more ways to interact with the world. CD Projekt RED says returning fans will feel right at home, but new hardware features help make the experience feel current.

They also highlight the Switch 2’s LCD screen and VRR support, both of which contribute to smoother performance in handheld mode. While specific frame rates aren’t detailed, the team describes this as the best portable version of Cyberpunk yet.

Even the way you play ties into the game’s theme. As Tremblay puts it: “Playing the game on Nintendo Switch 2 is the more cyberpunk way to play Cyberpunk.”

Freedom, Choices, and the City of Dreams

Cyberpunk 2077 has always been about choice—how you play, what you say, and who you become. That theme carries through in this version for Nintendo Switch 2. Badowski explains that Night City offers the illusion of freedom at first, but eventually reveals itself as a system that pushes back. The game’s branching paths and character-driven dialogue are central to that idea.

By focusing on first-person perspective, CD Projekt RED wanted you to feel closer to each interaction. When you speak to someone, you see their face, their expression, their reaction. That closeness helps reinforce the feeling that your decisions matter—whether you’re navigating a tense deal, picking a side, or choosing your next upgrade.

The open-world setting of Night City plays just as important a role. It’s loud, bright, and packed with detail—from the upper towers of Corpo Plaza to the backstreets of Watson. Though the scale remains ambitious, the Switch 2 version aims to maintain the same density and atmosphere. Whether docked or on the go, the experience is meant to feel seamless.

It’s a story about carving your path, and the Switch 2 version gives you more flexibility in how you do that—without losing what made the original game work.

New Voices, New Possibilities

At one point, Tremblay pauses to reflect on how much game development has evolved. As a kid, he says, making games felt out of reach. Today, new platforms and tools are making it part of the culture. Systems like Nintendo Switch 2 offer more power and flexibility. The next generation of developers might grow up not just playing games like Cyberpunk 2077, but creating their own.

That mindset of accessibility and experimentation fits well with what this Creator’s Voice series has highlighted so far—how today’s games are being built for new audiences, new play styles, and new ideas.

Night City Is Set to Make Its Mark on Switch 2

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition has already had its moment on other platforms. However, this Nintendo Creator’s Voice episode shows that CD Projekt RED is approaching the Switch 2 version with real intention. Rather than scaling things down, they found ways to keep the experience focused and flexible. Whether you’re using motion controls or exploring Night City on the go, it still feels complete.

I’ve played Cyberpunk 2077 before. Though, seeing it in this context made me appreciate just how adaptable the game really is. The team’s focus on handheld performance, facial animations, and playstyle variety lines up well with what Nintendo Switch 2 offers. It’s not just about portability—it’s about letting you play your way.

This Creator’s Voice episode didn’t reveal major new gameplay. But it gave us a thoughtful look at how CD Projekt RED is thinking about story, control, and performance in a way that fits the system. The focus on seamless interaction and choice feels right at home on a platform built for flexibility.

Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition will be available on June 5th the same day the Nintendo Switch 2 launches. Will you be making your first trip to Night City on Nintendo hardware? Or are you diving back in with a Joy-Con 2 in hand? Let us know.
