Today, during Xbox’s Developer Direct presentation, Sandfall Interactive and Kepler Interactive dropped major news about their upcoming turn-based RPG, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. Fans can mark their calendars as the game is set to launch on April 24, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game will be available on Xbox Game Pass from the very first day.
A Peek Into the World of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
In an exclusive segment filmed at Sandfall Interactive’s Montpellier studio, the developers revealed key details about the game’s story, gameplay, and art direction. Heavily inspired by Belle Époque France, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 promises a visually stunning world paired with an emotional narrative. The gameplay is centered around innovative reactive turn-based combat, blending traditional RPG mechanics with real-time offensive and defensive strategies.
Meet the New Characters
Two new characters were unveiled:
- Monoco the Gestral (voiced by Rich Keeble): A bloodthirsty yet friendly addition to the party, Monoco brings a unique twist to battles by mimicking enemy abilities and using them against foes.
- Esquie (voiced by Maxence Cazorla): A larger-than-life companion who helps players navigate the overworld. Esquie’s abilities evolve throughout the game, enabling the Expedition to climb, swim, and soar across Clair Obscur’s expansive map.
The newly revealed overworld map offers freedom to explore diverse locations, uncover secrets, and engage in challenging side quests. Players can set up camp to customize weapons, delve into character backstories, and enjoy the game’s original score via an in-game record player. Optional caves and bespoke locations add layers of exploration and test players’ mastery of character-building mechanics.
As Sandfall Interactive’s debut project, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 highlights the studio’s commitment to delivering powerful narratives and pushing technical boundaries using Unreal Engine 5. Kepler Interactive’s backing further solidifies this title as a must-watch release for 2025.
