Cyberpunk 2077 Review

If you told me in 2021 that Cyberpunk 2077 would release on Nintendo Switch 2 and have an extremely successful DLC to boot, I would have told you that you’ve had a little too much cybernetic enhancements done to yourself. It’s obligatory at this point to mention the release, fall, and re-rise of Cyberpunk 2077. After it launched in December of 2020, instead of dismissing it as a broken game, CD Projekt Red fixed it and seemingly made it into the masterpiece that they promised from the beginning. Now that it’s getting another rebirth on Nintendo Switch 2 and PS Plus, does it still hold up as a must play in 2025? Let’s jump in.

Choose between Nomad, Streetkid, or Corpo.
It’s all a game of life.

Stadia and Storylines

Cyberpunk 2077’s launch wasn’t all that bad. It’s popular amongst cloud gamers as Stadia players had the best working version of the game. Being able to play this game on any screen is a must. The story, like the world itself is massive and comes in 3 unique storylines. Players choose between 3 archetypes: Nomad, Streetkid, and Corpo. The customization doesn’t stop there though as there are also unique play styles too: Netrunner, Engineer, or Solo Combat style play. Whatever archetype or style chosen, the game customizes along with players. The character creator is extremely deep and the cybernetic enhancements players can take advantage of in the game also lend a unique take on character progression and customization.

Players are tasked with escaping a cyber virus of sorts in their bodies as they are fused (without fully knowing what they are getting into) with rockstar Johnny Silverhand (played by Keanu Reeves). Without diving into spoilers, the story journey is a rambunctious, gripping, humorous and excellent ride especially with Keanu Reeves in tow. While the bugs hurt this game on launch, the story itself makes it no surprise that Cyberpunk 2077 has become one of best selling games of all time.

The story itself takes 20+ hours. Taking it slow and exploring the massive world is strongly recommended. Cyberpunk 2077 is a deeply customizable RPG title and the world offers a ton of things to do to further progression. There’s a lot more game here than the story.

More Than a Feeling

Players who jump into Cyberpunk 2077 aren’t just in it for the main campaign. This game truly can become a ‘forever’ title. The gameplay is one of the most unique first person immersion concepts in recent memory.  Players can run, jump, steal cars, go on side quests for new skills, shop, go to the club, take on gangs, ride in a futuristic transport, go off the map into the ‘nomad lands’, the list goes on and on. It never felt like a chore doing missions.

There’s a variety of different kinds of missions here too. Players sometimes need to gun down enemies, but other times there’s elements of stealth, hacking, and more. The possibilities really do feel endless.

Perhaps the best part of any game someone can’t put down, is the multiple ways to pick it back up. The game supports cross saves so whether I was playing in the Cloud, on the Console, on PC I was amazed that I could call up my save file. Cloud saves are the future of smart gaming. Casual and core gamers alike benefit from this feature. There are a few angering moments though, sometimes the autosave wouldn’t work and I’d die, needing to redo a whole lot of dialogue again. The good thing is, manual saves are a thing here. Remember to save!

Geographical Graphics

It’s no surprise CD Projekt Red created a beautiful world to live in after their precious work on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Night City is just the centre of it. The Badlands and areas around Night City lend to much different ways of exploring and everything is fully alive. Playing on Nintendo Switch 2 vs Console or Cloud certainly didn’t limit the graphic fidelity in meaningful ways. The game has been adapting and growing for nearly 5 years. The work that’s been done to fix this title is stellar. The game feels as futuristic as the title says.

Presentation wise, there are a few rough points. But when the game is this massive it comes to be expected. Majority of my time on Nintendo Switch 2 was smooth, but some motion blur and frame skips were noticeable when in heavy combat or heavily populated exploration. When I hopped on to other platforms like PS5 there were different small glitches and bugs to report. At the end of the night, it’s clear that no city experience was perfect. I’m happy to report though nothing has been game breaking.

Corpo Overall

All in all, Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition is exactly what it advertises. It’s the ultimate way to jump into the RPG action title. There are unique storylines offered for relatability, choices matter, customization is seemingly limitless, and the immersion is heavy. The NPCs like Jackie and the infamous Johnny Silverhand keep things fresh. The open world feels lived in; ripe for exploration. With the recent addition of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS Plus, it’s easy for more gamers to jump in.

Summary

Cyberpunk 2077 being available on multiple platforms is a great access point for anyone looking for an immersive, futuristic first person action title. It’s clear why this is one of the best selling games of the recent generation. The biggest new bonus is being able to play the base game on PS Plus as of a recent update at the time of this review. See you in Night City!
