Elden Ring: Nightreign is about to get more flexible for co-op fans. On July 30, a new update brings Duo Expeditions to the game, letting two Nightfarers team up without needing a full squad. This long-requested feature arrives as part of the 1.02 patch, which also includes several quality-of-life improvements for solo and co-op runs alike. Whether you’re looking to dive into Limveld with a trusted friend or explore what’s changed in the latest update, there’s a lot to look forward to.
What Are Duo Expeditions?
Duo Expeditions let you and one other Nightfarer take on missions in Elden Ring: Nightreign without being forced into a three-person squad. Before this update, matchmaking always filled your team with a third partner, even if you only wanted to play with a friend. Now, you can tackle Limveld’s toughest challenges as a true duo.
The feature was added in direct response to community feedback. FromSoftware initially balanced Nightreign around solo and three-person play, but many fans asked for a two-player option. Director Junya Ishizaki confirmed that the team took that feedback seriously and worked to make duos viable without disrupting overall game balance.
What Else Is in the Elden Ring: Nightreign 1.02 Update?
Alongside Duo Expeditions, the 1.02 update includes a few key quality-of-life changes. Solo Nightfarers can now automatically self-revive once per night boss encounter, giving solo runs a small but meaningful boost. Rune rewards for solo expeditions have also been increased, helping reduce the grind.
The update adds a new UI system as well. Relics can now be sorted and filtered more easily, making inventory management faster and less frustrating. These changes should help both new and returning players spend less time in menus and more time in battle.
