Elder Scrolls Online 2025: Seasons of the Worm Cult, Content Pass, and Subclassing Update

Fantasy characters in armor wield glowing weapons amid a mystical landscape, embodying the epic saga of "The Elder Scrolls Online: Seasons of the Worm Cult" at the top.

During the latest ESO Direct, ZeniMax Online Studios revealed big changes for The Elder Scrolls Online in 2025. The year’s main storyline, Elder Scrolls Online Seasons of the Worm Cult, returns to the roots of the base game and introduces a new zone, the island of Solstice. It’s a two-part adventure that continues a narrative first introduced when ESO launched, while offering fresh content for new and returning fans

Alongside the new chapter, ZeniMax is also moving away from its traditional annual Chapter releases. Instead, it’s adopting a more flexible approach focused on variety and experimentation. This new direction is supported by the 2025 Content Pass, which grants access to all major updates coming throughout the year.

With new storylines, PvE dungeons, hybrid class options, and world events, 2025 is shaping up to be a different kind of year for ESO.

2025 Content Pass Covers the Full Adventure

For 2025, The Elder Scrolls Online is offering a new way to access its content: the 2025 Content Pass. This pass includes everything planned for the year, from major story updates to PvE dungeon packs and live events. It’s a one-stop option for those looking to stay up to date without managing separate purchases.

The pass includes both parts of Seasons of the Worm Cult, two four-player dungeon packs—Fallen Banners and Feast of Shadows—and the Writhing Wall in-game event. The first dungeon pack, Fallen Banners, is available now, while Feast of Shadows arrives later in fall 2025.

For those looking to dive deeper, the 2025 Premium Edition also includes the Content Pass plus extra in-game perks. More details will be shared as the year continues, but both versions are built around flexible access and frequent updates.

In a rocky, barren landscape reminiscent of the Elder Scrolls Online universe, two armored warriors clash with a horned creature under the ominous influence of the Seasons of the Worm cult.

Seasons of the Worm Cult and the Writhing Wall Event

The highlight of ESO’s 2025 content is Seasons of the Worm Cult, a two-part storyline set on the island of Solstice. This marks the first time in ESO history that a major narrative continues from the game’s original base story. That said, newcomers won’t need to complete the original campaign to jump in.

Solstice is split in half by the Writhing Wall—a massive magical barrier raised by the Worm Cult. Part 1 of the story will launch on June 2 for PC and Mac, and June 18 for consoles. Part 2 is set to release later in the year, following a major in-game event.

That event, focused on the Writhing Wall, will ask the community to work together. Breaking through the barrier will unlock access to Part 2 and change the world of Tamriel in real time. It’s a first for ESO, giving gamers a chance to influence the story’s direction through gameplay.

New Dungeon Packs and Game-Changing Update 46

The 2025 Content Pass also includes two four-player PvE dungeon packs. Fallen Banners is available now, while Feast of Shadows will launch in fall 2025. Each dungeon set features unique storylines, achievements, and loot. These packs are designed to expand ESO’s worldbuilding and give groups new challenges to tackle throughout the year.

Launching alongside Seasons of the Worm Cult Part 1 is Update 46, a base-game patch that introduces the new Subclassing system. This major feature allows you to swap out up to two of your class Skill Lines with those from other classes. It’s a flexible way to create hybrid builds tailored to your preferred playstyle.

Also included in Update 46 is Hero’s Return, a new system aimed at lapsed users. It helps returning gamers ease back into ESO with guided objectives, and even offers rewards to help them get back up to speed.

Amidst a smoky battlefield, a fantasy warrior in armor fiercely raises their sword, standing defiant against the chaos. A burning village flickers eerily behind them, reminiscent of the harrowing battles from Elder Scrolls Online: Seasons of the Worm Cult.

A New Chapter for Elder Scrolls Online Starts This June

With Seasons of the Worm Cult, new dungeons, subclassing, and the community-driven Writhing Wall event, The Elder Scrolls Online is heading in a bold new direction. Moving away from the yearly Chapter model gives the developers more room to experiment. And, the 2025 Content Pass makes staying current simpler than ever.

Whether you’re a longtime fan or someone thinking of jumping back in, this year’s updates offer a wide range of content across story, co-op, and progression. The June release of Part 1 is just the start of a year-long rollout that blends new ideas with the game’s core identity.
