The showcase also confirmed that creators will soon be able to build interactive NPCs with custom personalities, voice delivery, and dialogue using the same tech behind last month’s AI Darth Vader. Combined with a growing library of templates and assets in Unreal Editor for Fortnite, these updates mark a major step forward for creator tools across the Fortnite ecosystem.
AI NPCs Are Coming to Fortnite
One of the biggest announcements from the State of Unreal 2025 was the upcoming Persona Device, a new tool that lets creators build fully interactive AI-powered NPCs inside Fortnite. Using the Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN), you’ll be able to set your character’s voice type, delivery style, and personality traits. The goal is to give creators more control over how their characters interact with players in real time.
During the live demo, Epic staff showed off an AI character named Mr. Buttons, who tried to convince the player to press a big red button. The character responded naturally to questions, stayed in character, and even tried to manipulate the situation, all through voice interaction. It was surprisingly funny and just a bit unsettling, which made it even more entertaining. One of his lines, “a gateway to glory, a symphony of… well, you get the idea,” showed how creative and unpredictable these AI characters can be.
Epic says this system builds on what it learned from last month’s AI-powered Darth Vader. That version of Vader could hold conversations, react to in-game events, and even summarize what was happening around the player. The voice was generated using Gemini 2.0 Flash and ElevenLabs tech, with full approval from James Earl Jones’ estate. While the results were impressive, Epic did have to issue a hotfix after players managed to get Vader to say things that didn’t quite match the tone of the game.
Those lessons are now being turned into tools for the community. The Persona Device is expected to launch later this year, giving Fortnite creators a powerful new way to build story-driven, voice-interactive characters inside their islands. During the keynote, Epic described AI as a way to boost creativity rather than replace it, calling it “a multiplying force for human creatives.”
Squid Game, Avatar, and Star Wars Coming to UEFN
Fortnite’s creative toolset is also expanding with new licensed content. Epic confirmed that several major franchises are heading to Unreal Editor for Fortnite, giving creators even more flexibility to build themed experiences.
First up is Squid Game, arriving June 27 to coincide with the series finale. Epic says creators will be able to use official assets and publish Squid Game-inspired maps later this summer. It’s the latest in a growing trend of Netflix crossovers following previous UEFN updates like The Walking Dead.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is also on the way, with content arriving in 2026. While details are still light, the announcement confirms that creators will have access to official templates and assets from the franchise when it launches.
Star Wars is getting another boost as well, this time focused on creation tools. Epic says future UEFN updates will include features that let you build and share your own Star Wars stories, likely tying into the Persona Device for interactive character moments. A release window hasn’t been announced yet.
These new franchises follow last year’s additions like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and show Epic’s continued push to make UEFN a flexible space for both original and IP-based creations.
LEGO Editor and Bloom Tycoon Arrive June 17
Epic is continuing to expand Fortnite’s LEGO content with two new tools launching on June 17. The first is the LEGO Brick Editor. This new feature lets you build islands brick-by-brick using 50 classic LEGO bricks in 42 different colors. This system brings a more hands-on approach to LEGO creation, giving you control over the layout and design in a way that feels closer to real-world building.
Also coming is a new gameplay template called LEGO Bloom Tycoon. Details were limited during the keynote. However, the name suggests a more structured LEGO-themed experience, possibly focused on growing or managing resources. It adds to Fortnite’s growing lineup of genre templates, following the release of survival and racing kits in earlier updates.
These additions continue to show how Epic is positioning Fortnite as more than a battle royale. Whether you’re building with LEGO, scripting dialogue with AI characters, or crafting game modes from popular franchises, Fortnite’s creative tools now support a wide range of ideas and play styles.
Epic Developer Assistant and Fortnite Creator Stats
Alongside the new creation tools, Epic also highlighted an AI assistant aimed at helping developers build faster. The Epic Developer Assistant is now in beta and available through the Epic Developer Community site. It’s designed to support creators working in Verse, Fortnite’s scripting language, by turning plain-language prompts into usable code. It’s still early days for the Assistant. But it could be a helpful resource for creators new to UEFN or anyone trying to speed up repetitive coding tasks.
Epic also shared updated stats on Fortnite’s creator economy. Since Unreal Editor for Fortnite launched in 2023, over 260,000 islands have been published. Players have spent more than 11.2 billion hours exploring user-made content. And, Epic has paid out $722 million to creators to date. Those numbers reinforce how central UEFN has become to Fortnite’s identity. And, how much these new tools could push things further.
They also confirmed that Unreal Engine 6 is on the horizon. It will bring Unreal Engine 5 and UEFN closer together as a unified platform. This will give creators access to shared tools, scripting languages, and deployment options across Fortnite and standalone games.
