CCP Games has announced Legion, the next major expansion for EVE Online, launching May 27, 2025. The update introduces a new system of Freelance Jobs, powerful warships, and expanded sovereignty tools. This further deepens the sandbox MMO’s player-driven warfare.
At the heart of Legion is a shift in how players join corporations and take part in New Eden’s long-running conflicts. The new Freelance Jobs system allows capsuleers to accept contracts from player-run organizations without formal membership. This gives newcomers and veterans alike more freedom to participate in combat, logistics, and industrial operations on their own terms. Every completed job builds reputation. Thus, it can eventually lead to more permanent roles in EVE’s sprawling network of alliances.
“With Legion, we’re opening a direct path to joining the fight in gaming’s largest war,” said Creative Director Bergur Finnbogason. “Freelance Jobs give anyone, regardless of experience, the power to fleet up, earn rewards, and shape the future of New Eden.”
Two new warships also enter the fray:
- Babaroga: A Triglavian Tech II marauder equipped with bastion modules and entropic disintegrators. It is designed to deliver high subcapital damage with surgical precision.
- Sarathiel: An Angel Cartel dreadnought that specializes in long-range projectile destruction. It is the first dreadnought able to activate a Capital Micro Jump Drive while in siege mode.
To support large-scale alliances, Legion also enhances nullsec sovereignty mechanics with the Equinox Sovereignty Suite. This gives players more tools to manage, fortify, and develop territory. Additionally, a new Corporation Palette system enables unified visual identities across fleets. It reinforces corporate presence throughout contested space.
The expansion includes ship balance updates to cruisers and capitals, and a reworked in-game map. Omega players will receive additional Skill Points through the AIR Career Program, accelerating character growth.
CCP also confirmed Nemesis, a new public event tied to the EVE Vanguard project, will begin September 16. This marks the final chance for players to engage in planetary combat before EVE Vanguard launches in Steam Early Access in Summer 2026.
