I Hate This Place Announced as the First Horror Title from Bloober Team’s New Label

Broken Mirror Games, a new horror label from Bloober Team, has teamed up with Skybound Entertainment to announce I Hate This Place, an isometric survival horror game based on the comic series by Kyle Starks and Artyom Topilin.

Announced during the Future Games Show, the game is set to launch in Q4 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.

A Surreal Nightmare of Survival

Inspired by the Eisner-nominated comic, I Hate This Place throws you into a world where reality is unraveling. You play as Elena, who accidentally unleashes a dangerous force and must survive in a hostile, ever-changing landscape. Every creature is out to get you, and brute force won’t be enough to win. Combat blends gunfights, melee encounters, and environmental manipulation, making each fight a test of quick thinking. The day-night cycle adds another layer of challenge—safehouses offer brief refuge, but you’ll need to reach them before nightfall. And no matter what, avoid the Horned Man.

The laboratory scene was eerily illuminated with colored lights, casting shadows on the red mutant vines creeping over the floor and walls. A biohazard sign loomed ominously. It felt like a setting from "I Hate This Place," where danger lurked at every corner.

Unlike traditional survival horror, I Hate This Place encourages creativity in combat. Weapons are scarce, and you’ll often need to rely on your surroundings to gain the upper hand. The game rewards smart decision-making—running headfirst into danger rarely ends well. With an open-world structure, you’re free to explore eerie locations, each telling its own story through environmental details.

A Comic Book Horror Come to Life

Visually, I Hate This Place stands out with a bold, ’80s comic book aesthetic. The world is filled with bold colors, making its dangers stand out in a way that feels both striking and unnerving. Instead of relying on darkness and muted tones, the game leans into stylized, high-contrast visuals to create a surreal atmosphere. Every environment feels handcrafted, with a constant sense of unease, as if something is always watching.

The open notebook reveals eerie drawings alongside chilling text that reads, "Come to Me." On the right page, a sinister figure is labeled "Man of the Horns," evoking a sense of dread reminiscent of the phrase "I Hate This Place.

Developed under Bloober Team’s new horror label, Broken Mirror Games, the project follows in the footsteps of The Medium and Observer. Piotr Babieno, CEO of Bloober Team, believes I Hate This Place brings a fresh perspective to horror games:

“With its blend of survival mechanics, gripping storytelling, and a distinct visual identity, we believe I Hate This Place will immerse gamers in a truly unforgettable nightmare.”

Kyle Starks, co-creator of the comic, is just as excited to see his work transformed into a video game:

“I love my book I Hate This Place, so needless to say, I’m thrilled to see someone bring it to life in video game form!”

When Can You Play It?

I Hate This Place is set to launch in Q4 2025 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. With its unique art style, tense survival mechanics, and a world where nothing is what it seems, this could be one of the most distinct horror games in recent years.
