Mafia: The Old Country now has a release date—and a full gameplay trailer to go with it. 2K and Hangar 13 have confirmed the next entry in the long-running series launches August 8, 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC via Steam, and GeForce NOW. It’s the first new mainline title since Mafia III in 2016. And, it’s launching at a lower-than-usual price of $49.99 USD.

A developer panel at PAX East is scheduled for later today, but 2K has already shared key details about the game’s setting, story, and gameplay. Here’s everything we know so far about what to expect from Mafia: The Old Country.

What to Expect from Mafia: The Old Country’s Gameplay

Mafia: The Old Country returns to the series’ roots with a linear, story-driven format, much like Mafia and Mafia II. Set in early 1900s Sicily, you play as Enzo Favara, a young man working his way up through Don Torrisi’s crime family after taking the oath. The gameplay blends melee combat, gunplay, and stealth, along with chase sequences on both horseback and in vehicles—echoing the cinematic missions that defined earlier entries in the series.

Meanwhile, the shift away from Mafia III’s open-world structure brings the series back to a more focused, mission-based approach. Hangar 13 describes the experience as gritty, grounded, and emotional—built to deliver a narrative that doesn’t demand a massive time investment. Loyalty, honor, and obedience define Enzo’s path, with each being tested across the game’s story.

The world of Mafia: The Old Country is designed to reflect the time period with era-authentic weapons, vehicles, and settings. The gameplay trailer highlights a detailed Sicilian backdrop, complete with historical architecture and rugged rural terrain. This is also the first game in the series developed using Unreal Engine 5.

Standard, Deluxe, and What You Get for Pre-Ordering

Mafia: The Old Country will be available in two editions: Standard and Deluxe. The Standard Edition includes the full base game and is priced at $49.99 USD. That’s well below the typical $69.99 USD price for most modern AAA releases.

The Deluxe Edition is priced at $59.99 USD. And, it includes two content packs: the Padrino Pack and the Gatto Nero Pack. These add a variety of in-game bonuses, including unique weapons like the Lupara Speciale shotgun and Vendetti Speciale pistol, along with outfits, charms, a limousine, and a horse. The edition also includes a digital artbook and the game’s original score.

Furthermore, all pre-orders—regardless of edition—come with the Soldato Pack. This includes the Soldato outfit, Scannaturi Speciale knife, Tesoro horse and accessories, and a Lupara charm. Pre-orders are now open across all platforms.

A 1905 Mafia Origin Story Set in Sicily

Mafia: The Old Country serves as a prequel to the original Mafia. It is set in the year 1905—25 years before the events of the first game. The story takes place in early 1900s Sicily. You follow Enzo Favara’s rise from a life of hard labour in the sulfur mines to becoming a made man under Don Torrisi.

The game’s narrative focuses on Enzo’s loyalty, honor, and obedience—traits that define his path through Sicily’s criminal underworld. These themes are central to his progression as he faces various challenges that test his values and commitment to the family.

Hangar 13 describes the story as grounded and emotional, with a focus on storytelling over open-world distractions. As the first Mafia title built with Unreal Engine 5, the world aims to offer a period-authentic depiction of Sicily, complete with historical architecture, environments, and tone that reflect the time and place.
