The development team behind Marathon has confirmed that the game will no longer launch on September 23 as originally planned. In a new blog post, Bungie says it needs more time to deliver on the vision that fans are hoping for.
The delay follows feedback from the community after the game’s reveal and recent alpha test. A new release date will be revealed later this fall.
“After much discussion within our dev team, we’ve made the decision to delay the September 23rd release,” the post reads. While no new release date was given, Bungie says more information will arrive later this fall.
The dev team noted that several gameplay changes are already underway. These include improved AI encounters, new loot types, and a stronger focus on strategy and tension during combat. Bungie’s also working on better visuals and more story moments. They’re bringing back the darker tone from the original trilogy.
More social features are on the way too, like proximity chat and a smoother experience for single and duo players. Closed testing will continue over the next few months, including feedback from alpha testers. Bungie says this is all part of a longer process to build trust and keep players at the centre of development.
Stay tuned for the next update later this fall, when Bungie plans to reveal the new release date and show what’s changed.
