Marathon Gameplay Reveal Set for April 12

In a futuristic forest with lush vegetation and a holographic screen, bold text read "Marathon," encased in a vibrant green border that seemed to pulse with life.

Bungie is finally ready to show gameplay for Marathon, its upcoming sci-fi extraction shooter, during a livestream this Saturday.

After months of silence and a community-driven ARG, the official reveal is locked in for April 12, 2025 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. You’ll be able to watch it live on Marathon’s Twitch, YouTube and TikTok channels. Here, Bungie will share gameplay, updates, and more details about the project.

Marathon was first announced in 2023, but Bungie has kept most of it under wraps. So far, fans have only seen concept art, a cinematic trailer, and a few development updates. The studio’s last big update came in October, when game director Joe Ziegler confirmed the project was still in heavy development. He also noted that it had gone through major changes based on player testing and internal feedback.

This week, Bungie kicked off a teaser campaign with new social posts, screenshots, and a short “save the date” trailer. Art director Joseph Cross also shared more images, giving a closer look at the game’s characters and world. The community finished solving an ARG that helped unlock the reveal date, bringing months of cryptic clues to a close.

What Is Marathon?

Marathon is a PvP extraction shooter where you take on the role of a Runner—a cybernetic mercenary built to survive. It’s set on Tau Ceti IV, a mysterious planet with a lost colony and valuable loot waiting to be found. In each match, you’ll search for weapons and gear, but risk losing everything if you fail to extract.

It’s also Bungie’s first new IP in over a decade, following years of work on Destiny. For longtime fans, the name might sound familiar—Marathon is technically a reboot of the 1994 classic FPS that helped put Bungie on the map. But this version is all about multiplayer, extraction mechanics, and futuristic PvP action.

The reveal is expected to bring our first look at gameplay, including how Runners move, fight, and gear up during a match. There’s no confirmed release window yet, but that could change once the showcase airs.

The Marathon Gameplay Reveal Showcase goes live April 12. If you’ve been waiting to see what Bungie’s been working on, now’s the time. Will you be tuning in for the reveal? Let us know what you’re hoping to see from Marathon’s gameplay.
