The first title in the Monster Hunter series for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, Monster Hunter Wilds, will receive its first major free update on April 4, 2025. Among the main additions are the return of Mizutsune, new challenges, quests, and the introduction of a social space called Grand Hub.
New Creatures and Challenges
Mizutsune, one of the classic creatures of the series, will make its appearance in the Forbidden Lands starting at Hunter Rank 21. This leviathan is known for its graceful yet dangerous bubbles that can immobilize players. Additionally, at Rank 41 and above, the Tempered version of Mizutsune will also appear, offering an even greater challenge.
Furthermore, Arch-tempered Rey Dau, an even more powerful version than its Tempered counterpart, will be available as an event quest for players at Rank 50 or higher. This new creature will allow players to forge the Rey Dau Gamma armor. Additionally, a new quest will unlock to hunt Zoh Shia once again, appearing during Wyvern’s Wakening in the Ruins of Wyveria.
New Quests and Activities
This update introduces three additional quest types: Arena Quests, Challenge Quests, and Free Challenge Quests. The first two can be completed in teams of up to two players with predetermined equipment, while Free Challenge Quests have no equipment restrictions and allow groups of up to four hunters. These quests will be available for a limited time and offer special rewards.
New event quests have also been added, allowing players to obtain special armor, quickly raise their Hunter Rank, and collect cooking ingredients.
Grand Hub and Social Activities
The Grand Hub is a new gathering area for hunters, where they can participate in activities such as the Barrel Bowling minigame, which offers items and pendants as rewards. Additionally, this space allows players to experience the traditions of the village of Suja, including the Diva’s nighttime vocal performances.
Each season, a special event will take place in the Grand Hub. The first one, Festival of Accord: Blossomdance, will be held from April 23 to May 7, introducing aesthetic changes, new meals, and exclusive gear. Towards the end of the festival, from April 30 to May 21, the event quest featuring Arch-tempered Rey Dau will be available.
Cosmetic Additions and Future Updates
The update will also include a new free outfit for the companion Alma, the ability to change her glasses, and the return of classic gestures as free DLC. Additionally, the first paid cosmetic content pack will be introduced, included in the Premium Deluxe Edition and the Cosmetic DLC Pass.
Finally, another update is planned for May, featuring a collaboration with another Capcom title and new functionalities. The second major free update for the game is expected to launch this summer.
