What Is Happening To Stranger Things Puzzle Tales?:

Stranger Things Puzzle Tales is a mobile game based on the popular Netflix show Stranger Things. The game was originally delisted from the App Store and then rereleased on Netflix Games in 2022. Now the game developer, Next Games, has come out and announced via X (formerly Twitter) that the game is shutting down on December 13th so they can allow the developers to move on to other projects. You can view the announcement here.

Stranger Things Puzzle Tales is a very different style of game than the other two Stranger Things games on Netflix Games as those are adventure games/action games whilst Stranger Things Puzzle Tales is a match 3 game which whilst there are loads of them on Netflix Games the fact this is an internal game is closing and being removed is worrying.

We also have to factor in this regard why couldn’t Next Games just allow this game to stay on the service as an offline download where you can just download and play through all the levels and content that was created for this game? Unlike times when we’ve seen games based on popular IPs like those controlled by Disney which had been licensed to the developers, Netflix not only owns the IP but the developer as well and it makes me worry about the long-term viability of Netflix’s Gaming platform and how long games based on other Netflix properties will stay live. All player stats will be wiped when this game is shuttered bringing the end of an era.
