Compulsion Games has released a new documentary, Weaving Hazel’s Journey: A South of Midnight Documentary, now available on the Xbox YouTube channel. The documentary provides fans with an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the development of South of Midnight. An action-adventure title inspired by folktales from the American Deep South.
The documentary includes interviews with the creative team and cast, showcasing insights into the game’s design and themes. Performance and Voice Director Ahmed Best, actress Adriyan Rae, and stunt actress Nona Parker Johnson, all share their experiences of bringing the game’s protagonist, Hazel, to life through motion capture and voice acting. Art Director Whitney Clayton and Composer Olivier Derivière also discuss the game’s distinctive art style and soundtrack, influenced by various Deep South musical traditions.
In tandem with the documentary, Compulsion Games has announced The Art & Music of South of Midnight, a box set curated by Dutch design studio Cook & Becker. The set includes a 160-page art book, a two-LP vinyl soundtrack, a comic book, artwork on metal, and a collectible magnet. The box set, which does not include the game itself, is available for pre-order now from Cook & Becker.
South of Midnight is expected to launch in 2025 for Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Steam, with availability on Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming from day one.
