The update also introduces separate gameplay styles for online and offline matches, giving each mode its own feel. Whether you’re into Career Mode or Ultimate Team, FC 26 aims to play smoother and respond better in every situation.

Here’s a breakdown of the most important changes you can expect when EA SPORTS FC 26 arrives in September.

Gameplay Overhaul Focuses on Core Improvements

EA SPORTS FC 26 focuses on what EA calls “gameplay fundamentals,” with changes that affect nearly every part of the pitch. Dribbling has been rebuilt with a new Dynamic Dribbling system. Player movement is more responsive, especially when sprinting or turning to chase the ball.

Passing and shooting are now faster and more flexible. First touches feel sharper, and players react more quickly to loose balls. Goalkeepers benefit from new animations and smarter positioning, with machine learning used to adjust where they stand.

Defending has also been reworked. Well-timed tackles are more likely to succeed, and defenders are better at keeping the ball. Physical play gets more reliable too, with better shielding and new shoulder challenges that let you create space.

Even animations and responsiveness have been tuned to reduce sluggish moments. These changes apply to both Competitive and Authentic gameplay modes, giving every match a more consistent feel.

EA SPORTS FC 26 Splits Gameplay into Competitive and Authentic Modes

One of the biggest changes in FC 26 is the introduction of two distinct gameplay presets. EA calls them Competitive and Authentic. Each one is tuned to fit how and where you play.

On one hand, competitive gameplay is used in online modes like Ultimate Team, Clubs, and Online Seasons. It focuses on speed, responsiveness, and tight control. AI assistance is reduced, and player actions respond faster to your inputs.

On the other hand, authentic gameplay is the default for offline modes like Career. It focuses on realism, slower pacing, and more lifelike behavior. You’ll see tighter positioning, weather effects, and more physics-based animations.

You can switch between both styles in Kick-Off and Career Mode, but online modes are locked to Competitive. This split lets EA tune each type separately, based on what fans want from each experience.

New PlayStyles and Features

EA SPORTS FC 26 introduces new PlayStyles and rebalances older ones to give players more personality and control. PlayStyles now offer unique abilities, but high-rated attributes matter more than before. This helps top-tier players perform better, even without PlayStyle boosts.

New options include Enforcer for stronger physical play, Gamechanger for creative finishes, and Inventive for advanced passing. Trivela shots are now tied to the Gamechanger PlayStyle, making them less common and easier to balance.

The update also adds High-Contrast Mode for better visibility, new skill moves, and a reworked Player Name Bar that shows footedness, Skill Move rating, and more. You can toggle these features in the settings to match your preferences.

Tactical options have been expanded too. Career Mode gets new player roles like Box Crasher and Inverted Wingback. You can also assign more custom roles during set pieces and save up to 10 tactic codes across modes.

New Accessibility and Quality-of-Life Options

Accessibility gets a major push in FC 26 with several new settings. High-Contrast Mode makes players and the ball easier to see. You can adjust colours for kits, goalkeepers, referees, and the pitch to fit your needs. This feature also works in head-to-head matches.

Other improvements include toggles for player and stadium shadows, better subtitle options, and a simplified skill move system. This new setting lets you pull off context-based skill moves with a quick flick of the right stick.

There’s also a new accessibility setup screen that appears the first time you launch the game. It helps you adjust visual and control settings right away. These changes make FC 26 more approachable without reducing control.

Outside of accessibility, EA has updated match ratings, player UI, and practice tools. Throw-ins are more flexible, and CPU logic has been tweaked to make passes, shots, and fouls more accurate.
