New World: Aeternum Season 9 Introduces Capture the Flag, New Arenas, Events, and More

Amazon Games has officially launched Season 9 of New World: Aeternum, titled Season of the Banner, bringing new PvP content, seasonal events, artifact updates, and various quality-of-life improvements to players on PC and consoles.

Capture the Flag Mode Now Available

Season 9 marks the full release of Capture the Flag, a competitive PvP mode where teams battle in objective-based matches to secure flags and earn rewards. The mode includes two maps, Frozen Pass and Forbidden City, both named by the community and rotating equally.

This addition builds on past PvP improvements, aiming to deliver more dynamic and strategic combat experiences.

New Arena Map and FFA Changes

The Verdant Court arena map is now available for 3v3 combat. Set in an ancient temple, it features tight corridors designed for tactical skirmishes.

Free-for-All gameplay received updates as well:

  • Anti-Grouping Curse introduces a stacking debuff for players who stay too close to others. It reduces outgoing damage and increases damage taken. The effect resets upon death.
  • Reward improvements include faster chest interactions, increased doubloon drops, and higher minimum gear scores for shop items.

Seasonal Events and Bonuses

Both the Free and Premium Season Tracks return, featuring new cosmetics, seasonal gear, boosts, and consumables. A deep dive into the full reward list will be released soon.

Summer Medleyfaire returns as the main seasonal event, transforming settlements into music and fishing-themed festival hubs.

Expeditions Unleashed, a world boss event series, will run on the following dates:

  • Admiral Blackpowder: August 5 to 11
  • Empress Zhou: September 9 to 15
  • Mammoth Mahantaram: October 7 to 13

Boost events will also take place throughout the season:

  • Double Refining XP: August 19 to 25 and October 21 to 27
  • Double Weapon XP: September 23 to 29

Additional Updates

Players will get early access to a new Outpost Rush map during a limited-time preview event in Season 9. The map is scheduled for full launch in Season 10.

New cosmetics will be added to the in-game store throughout July, August, and September. Amazon has also confirmed that seasonal servers will not return and are not planned for future updates.
