Nintendo Has Shared a First Look At The New Console

After months of speculation about what has become one of gaming’s worst-kept secrets, Nintendo has officially confirmed the existence of the Nintendo Switch 2.

The reveal trailer shows the current Nintendo Switch being transformed into the Nintendo Switch 2. The Switch 2 looks very much like its predecessor; the Joy-Cons, however, seem to be more rounded and are black. It also appears that the Switch 2 Joy-Cons will be magnetic, stepping away from the sliding method of the current Switch.

In the trailer, we also see the Switch 2 being placed into its dock and some gameplay from a Mario Kart title, which could be Mario Kart 9.

We also have confirmation that the Switch 2 will be compatible with both physical and digital Nintendo Switch titles as well as having Switch 2 exclusive titles. A further press release, however, has suggested that some original Nintendo Switch games will not be compatible with the Switch 2:

Certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2. Details will be shared on the Nintendo website at a later date.

It has also been confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 will launch sometime in 2025 and that a special Nintendo Switch 2 Direct will take place on April 2nd 2025 which will show more details on Nintendo’s new console.
