OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 Announced, Launching This December on Consoles and PC

Square Enix has officially revealed OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0, a brand-new standalone RPG in the series. It’s coming December 4, 2025, to Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store.

Set before the original game, this new entry lets you create your own hero for the first time. After your hometown is destroyed, you’ll travel across Orsterra looking for revenge and a way to rebuild.

You can expect town building, eight-character party battles, and more than 30 recruitable allies in a fresh spin on the series’ classic systems.

Customization, Town Building, and Bigger Battles

This time, you’re not just choosing a path, you’re creating it. OCTOPATH TRAVELER 0 lets you build your own protagonist from the ground up. You pick their look, voice, and even their favorite food before heading out on a massive journey full of quests and choices.

Combat uses an upgraded version of the “Break and Boost” system. You’ll take eight characters into battle, split between a front and back row. Each row builds Boost Points separately, so you can rotate characters, time your attacks, and set up combos to break through enemy defenses.

As you explore, you’ll gather resources to rebuild your destroyed hometown. You can place buildings, decorate the town, and bring people back to live there. This part of the game ties directly into your progress.

You’ll also get full party customization, returning Path Actions, and the ability to recruit over 30 characters to your group.

A Journey Built on Loss and Revenge

It all starts in Wishvale, a quiet town in the Woodlands region of Orsterra. After a sudden tragedy destroys everything, your custom hero sets out to find those responsible and rebuild what was lost.

This isn’t someone else’s story. You create your character and shape their path across a world full of quests, decisions, and allies. More than 30 characters can join your party, each with their own backstory and abilities.

Path Actions return, letting you interact with townsfolk and travelers in different ways. You might recruit someone, gather information, or unlock side quests depending on how you approach them.

The HD-2D visuals combine pixel art with modern lighting and effects. Every location, from forest trails to burning cities, feels distinct and part of a larger world.
