SEGA is gearing up for a busy August in Phantasy Star Online 2 New Genesis, as the long-running online RPG celebrates the 13th anniversary of the original PSO2 with a series of in-game events and new content updates. Revealed in the latest NGS Headline WAVE broadcast, players can expect a new mini episode, class updates, powerful new weapons, Line Strike cards, limited-time quests, and the launch of the Super Phantasy Festival seasonal event.
Anniversary Celebrations and Limited-Time Events
Leading the celebrations is the Super Phantasy Festival, beginning in August. Festive creatures like Ceremo Rappy, Emperappy, and Lillipans will appear throughout the game world, and returning character Xiandy will feature new interactions tied to story content. Players can earn seasonal rewards through limited-time tasks, including Arms Refiner II, TA Customization Discs, and Festival ’25 SP Scratch Tickets.
Scratch Tickets during the event will offer cosmetics inspired by PSO2 characters like Shiva and Luther, along with the new NGS-spec Weapon Camo Guide to the Annihilation and a music disc featuring Shiva’s character theme. A separate N-Meseta Scratch pool includes returning FUN Scratch items alongside new accessories and emotes.
New Episode and Waker Class Update
A new Mini Episode continues the narrative following the battle against Vael. Launching August 6, it explores the personal convictions of main characters and delves into past events involving Crawford and Glen. The episode will unlock through Main Task progression.
Meanwhile, the Waker class is getting overhauled with new skills and balance adjustments. Notably, Marmelo attacks can now leave crests that periodically strike enemies and boost gauge generation for other summons. Fighters and Gunners also receive potency buffs and move adjustments to expand their versatility.
New Weapons: Leyend and Volgen
The upcoming Leyend weapon series debuts with a unique potential that weakens enemy attacks while simultaneously enhancing player damage. The longer players maintain attacks, the longer this debuff persists. Additionally, the new 13-star Volgen series upgrades the Juvolg line with superior stats and Potentials. Required materials for both weapons can be obtained in limited-time quests, which also feature new EX Augments for high-end gear customization.
Line Strike Wave 6 Brings Idola Characters
Twelve new Line Strike cards inspired by Idola Phantasy Star Saga will be released as part of the sixth wave. Each card features the Destiny Divergence skill, allowing cards to transform into one of two forms depending on battlefield placement. A starter deck will be available in the AC Shop, alongside accessories and visuals featuring Idola themes. A new task rewards players with an early copy of the upcoming “Crawford” card before its full debut.
Swimsuit-themed variants of Hariette, Matoi, Io, and Seraphy will also be available from Limited-time Quest drops throughout August.
Limited-time Quests: Hot Summer Dash and Massive Machine Assault
On August 12, Drill: Hot Summer Dash goes live, following the Cool Summer Dash event on August 6. Players will ride floating boards across water-themed courses filled with obstacles and a final boss encounter. Performance in these quests will be tracked through ARKS Records, and completing related title tasks will unlock new player titles.
On August 20, Massive Machine Assault introduces an 8-player quest set in a revamped Dreisen Plant. Each run offers randomized routes and debuts two new enemies: the heavily armed boss Ruine Granz and the explosive Heat Sparzile. Players can earn seasonal Scratch Tickets, N-Augment Transfer Passes, and additional rewards through accompanying tasks.
Anniversary Content Available Until August 6
Until the start of the festival, players can take part in the Great Rappy Suppression Trial in the Alter Realm. This event rewards Progrevance materials, Beta Reactors, and crafting items like C/Joindia for upgrading armor and units. Completing time-limited tasks during this period also provides Silver and Gold Big Bang Scratch Tickets.
