The Razer Edge device was announced back in October. It is a handheld gaming device that supports local Android games and emulators as well as just about every cloud gaming service out in the wild – including the two heavyweights: Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now. The device derives from the same spirit as the Logitech G Cloud and Ayn Odin Lite that we’ve positively reviewed.

The Razer Edge however differentiates itself from other devices in this space in a number of ways.

First, instead of being one monolithic device, it is a two part package: a Razer Kishi V2 (USB-C) mobile controller and a custom Razer Android 12 6.8in tablet that is the perfect fit for the device.

The Controller

The Razer Kishi V2 is our current favorite mobile controller and typically retails at $99 on its own (and the included version here has a few additional bells and whistles). There is a big benefit to having the controller detach from the Razer tablet – you can then also use this awesome controller with your phone (and other family members’ devices) as well! The controller works great even on large foldable Android devices as shown in the photo below.

The Razer Kishi V2 supports a wide range of mobile phones!

We should note that the version of the controller packaged with the Razer edge also supports Razer’s HyperSense haptics! This takes mobile gaming controllers up a level.

The Screen

The Razer edge package combines this fantastic mobile controller with what appears to be the perfectly sized and speced Android tablet. It comes with the SnapDragon Gen 1 gaming SOC built-in, which gives it plenty of oomph for any Android game or cloud gaming service.

The screen is where this device really shines, though. It comes with a 6.8 inch AMOLED display that supports a 144Hz refresh rate.

The tablet also comes with 128 GB of internal storage (expandable up to 2TB) and 8GB of RAM. The device also sports 2-way speakers + 2 digital microphones with THX Spatial Audio.

How to Order

You can go ahead and pre-order the WiFi version on Razer’s Site for $399. We now know it should begin shipping on January 26th.

Razer will also be partnering with Verizon Wireless to ship a 5G version of the device at a slightly later date. The 5G version will retail for $599 with significant new line discounts able to be applied if you activate the device when it is purchased.

We think this is going to be a tough device to beat in this space with the screen potentially being the game changer. We can’t wait to get our hands on it and to put it through its paces. So, make sure to check back here later this month for our review.
