Revealed at the Xbox Partner Preview last October, FBC: Firebreak is Remedy Entertainment’s upcoming cooperative first-person shooter set in the Control universe. Now, new details have emerged. Set six years after Control, the game takes place with The Oldest House still under lockdown following the Hiss attack, with Firebreak agents deployed as first responders to contain paranatural threats.

The latest news reveals Altered Augments, paranatural tools designed to change how you fight. FBC: Firebreak is set for release in Summer 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC, with day-one access on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium, as well as Game Pass for PC and Xbox.

Gameplay and Features

FBC: Firebreak is a three-player cooperative shooter where you take on the role of a Firebreaker—combat engineers tasked with containing supernatural threats within The Oldest House. Equipped with Crisis Kits, which include specialized tools and weapon attachments, you’ll battle against hordes of extra dimensional entities.

Missions escalate in unexpected ways. In Paper Chase, you’ll battle the Hiss while also dealing with paranatural sticky notes that attack and even form a massive boss called Sticky Ricky.

Crisis Kits offer different tactical options. Three have been revealed so far: the Splash Kit (which fires pressurized water), the Jump Kit (which grants electrical powers), and the Fix Kit (which repairs systems while boosting melee combat).

Mission difficulty is player-controlled through Threat and Clearance Levels, with deeper incursions offering higher rewards but greater risks. Currency earned during missions must be extracted safely, adding a layer of risk-reward decision-making.

Remedy is designing the game to be quick and accessible—there are no daily logins, no time-limited events, and no penalties for playing with lower-ranked teammates. All post-launch content will be free. Instead, the game is designed for quick, fun sessions with friends, focusing on chaotic, action-packed encounters.

In an intense first-person view, the office shootout in the video game escalates as characters engage in a gripping Firebreak scenario, weaving between desks and equipment while exchanging fire.

Newly Revealed Altered Augments

Altered Augments are paranatural artifacts repurposed as combat tools by the Federal Bureau of Control. Each provides a unique ability to turn the tide of battle. Here’s a look at three of them:

  • The Garden Gnome (AI9) – Fires from the Electro-Kinetic Charge Impactor, summoning a lightning storm that stuns enemies and drains energy from nearby sources. However, the gnome wanders around unpredictably, affecting both enemies and allies.
  • The Piggy Bank (AI16) – Attaches to the Wrench, unleashing a paranatural coin tornado when swung. It deals massive damage in a wide arc, but friendly fire is possible—watch out for airborne coins.
  • The Teapot (AI44) – Enhances the Crank-Operated Fluidic Ejector (COFE), allowing it to shoot boiling water that burns enemies. While preventing overheating, it also makes COFE capable of harming allies, adding a layer of risk.

Release and Availability

FBC: Firebreak is scheduled for release in Summer 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows PC. The game will be available day one on PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium. As well as PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Expect more details in the months leading up to launch.
