Rockstar Games has officially released the second trailer for Grand Theft Auto VI, offering a closer look at the world of Leonida, the characters of Jason and Lucia, and the high-stakes story behind their criminal partnership. The trailer dropped just four days after the game’s release was pushed back to May 26, 2026, giving gamers plenty to dig into while we wait.
The first trailer introduced modern-day Vice City. This second look expands the scope. We now see a conspiracy stretching across the entire state of Leonida, meet more characters from the criminal underworld, and get scenes that show how much Jason and Lucia rely on each other.
The trailer runs just under three minutes. It doesn’t include direct gameplay, but Rockstar calls it the “biggest, most immersive evolution of the series yet.” With the updated website and new press materials, there’s a lot to unpack.
A Criminal Duo Faces Long Odds in Leonida
The story of GTA VI centres on Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, two criminals caught in a state-wide conspiracy after a botched heist. The trailer opens with Jason picking Lucia up from prison, setting the tone for a partnership built on mutual need and shared survival.
They find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America. With the law and rival criminals closing in, Jason and Lucia are forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive. Jason is a former soldier who’s found work running drugs in the Florida-inspired state of Leonida.
He’s seen doing favours for an older associate named Brian, who seems to be providing housing and work in exchange for loyalty. Lucia, meanwhile, is fresh out of prison and determined to take control of her future — no matter what it takes.
We also get glimpses of other key figures, like Jason’s paranoid friend Cal, Vice City mogul Boobie Ike, and music entrepreneur Dre’Quan Priest, along with viral rap duo Real Dimez. Some of them appear briefly in the trailer, but their roles in the larger story aren’t fully clear yet.
What is clear is that Jason and Lucia are at the centre of it all — dealing with crime, corruption, and chaos across a state where trust is rare and survival isn’t guaranteed.
Welcome to Leonida: Sun, Crime, and Everything in Between
GTA VI takes place in Leonida, a fictional state inspired by Florida. The most recognizable location is Vice City, updated for the modern day with beachfront hotels, neon lights, and crowded intersections. It’s no longer the ’80s version from Vice City, but the culture, chaos, and excess are still intact.
Vice City is just one part of a much larger map. The new trailer highlights several new areas, each with its own vibe. Leonida Keys offers laid-back beaches and shady docks. Grassrivers is a dangerous stretch of wetlands full of gators and who knows what else. Port Gellhorn looks run-down and forgotten, filled with shuttered attractions and rough streets. Ambrosia brings industrial grit, biker gangs, and a giant sugar refinery. Mount Kalaga, far to the north, is rural, isolated, and full of recluses.
These areas suggest a massive open world with sharp contrasts — from party boats to swamp hideouts to truck stops. Some of these spots appear briefly in the trailer. They help show just how far Jason and Lucia’s story might stretch across the state.
A Story-Focused Trailer With No Gameplay in Sight
The second trailer runs just under three minutes and keeps its focus on story and atmosphere. We see Jason picking up Lucia from prison, short conversations between them, and flashes of criminal life — shootouts, car chases, tense standoffs, and a robbery or two. Some moments even resemble setups you’d expect in GTA Online heists.
Rockstar hasn’t shown any gameplay yet. Instead, the trailer plays like a cinematic teaser, building out tone, character dynamics, and a sense of place. A few quick cuts highlight social media clips, security footage, and chaotic street life. However, there’s no HUD, shooting mechanics, or mission structure shown.
What we do get is a clearer sense of what kind of story Rockstar is telling. Jason and Lucia feel more grounded than past leads — not over-the-top, but desperate, cautious, and tied to each other’s survival. Whether that means the game will lean more into drama or keep things loud and satirical remains to be seen.
2026 Is the Year of GTA VI
GTA VI is now set to launch on May 26, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It was originally planned for Fall 2025, but Rockstar delayed the release four days before dropping the second trailer. No PC version has been announced.
Alongside the trailer, Rockstar updated the official website with character bios, story information, and screenshots. The tone leans into a modern take on crime and power in Florida. Not just neon-soaked Vice City, but a whole state shaped by greed, survival, and broken systems.
It’s been over a decade since GTA V launched. And, fans have been waiting a long time for this next chapter. While gameplay is still under wraps, the second GTA VI trailer finally gives us a better sense of who the story is about, where it’s headed, and how far the chaos will spread across Leonida.
