Sea of Stars is expanding once again. Sabotage Studio has announced that Throes of the Watchmaker, a free downloadable content expansion for the turn-based RPG, will be released on May 20. Available across all platforms, the DLC offers a post-game adventure featuring new story content, gameplay mechanics, and a playable character.
Throes of the Watchmaker picks up after the events of the main game. It reunites Zale and Valere for a standalone quest set in the miniature world of Horloge. This is an invention of the Watchmaker, a returning character who built the Clockwork Castle and introduced the in-game tabletop game Wheels. The new setting is a cursed carnival environment filled with time-bending challenges and enemies.
The expansion introduces new classes for the protagonists. Zale now plays as a juggler, while Valere transforms into an acrobat, each with distinct abilities and combo potential. They are joined by a new playable character, the Artificer, a laser-equipped mechanized fighter.
While the DLC operates on a self-contained progression system, it features fully cinematic sequences and roughly eight hours of new content. According to Sabotage Studio, the cinematic scope of Throes of the Watchmaker matches that of the base game. It offers a narrative-rich experience intended for players who have completed the main campaign.
This is the second major free update for Sea of Stars. It follows Dawn of the Equinox, which added local co-op and other gameplay refinements. The update also brings new puzzles, enemies, and original music by lead composer Eric W. Brown. Additionally, it includes guest contributions by Yasunori Mitsuda, known for his work on Chrono Trigger.
