During The Game Awards 2024, held last December 13 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, SEGA revealed several highlights to expand its game catalog with new IPs and revamped classics.
One of the main announcements was Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a racing game that brings the iconic characters of the Sonic the Hedgehog universe to an innovative experience, with gameplay mechanics that promise to offer a different dimension to fans of the saga. The previous Sonic Racing game, Team Sonic Racing, has been available on Amazon Luna for quite some time. With the new entry, we might see a release on GeForce NOW or even Xbox Cloud’s “Stream your game” service.
Additionally, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, known for the Like a Dragon franchise, announced two new projects: a new game based on the Virtua Fighter saga and a new IP tentatively named Project Century. These announcements are in addition to the upcoming release of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, scheduled for February 21, 2025. Just like Atlus’ games, RGG Studio’s have been on cloud gaming services consistently, specially the Like a Dragon/Yakuza franchise.
During The Game Awards ceremony, SEGA was also recognized for its achievements. Metaphor: ReFantazio, one of their most recent titles, won the awards for Best Story, Best Art Direction, and Best RPG. Read our complete review here, and learn why it deserved those awards.
This year we are proud to present Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a new project in the Virtua Fighter series and a whole new concept with Project Century. We will continue to look for opportunities to expand our catalog with more classic and innovative IPs.
