Sega just dropped a new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, and it’s all about customization. From gadgets to decals, the game is giving you thousands of ways to build your ideal racing setup. Whether you want to fine-tune performance or just create the flashiest ride on the track, there’s a lot to explore.

The trailer also confirms big news for Nintendo fans. A dedicated Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds version is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, with digital and physical release plans, a $10 upgrade path, and full support for progress and content carryover. If you missed the original launch news, we covered it all in our Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds release date article.

Build Your Ultimate Racer with Thousands of Options

Customization plays a huge role in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. According to Sega, the game includes more than 40 vehicles, over 70 gadgets, and 100 different vehicle parts and decals. That adds up to more than 70,000 possible combinations.

You can mix and match racers, parts, and gadgets to tweak how your vehicle performs and looks. Whether you’re chasing top speed or going for a specific gadget setup, it all ties into how you play.

Compared to other racing games, CrossWorlds leans hard into mechanical and cosmetic variety. This new trailer gives a much better sense of how those elements come together, and it shows how the game is setting itself apart from titles like Mario Kart World.

We also shared hands-on impressions from the Closed Network Test in our Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds preview.

Nintendo Switch 2 Version Comes with Full Cart and Upgrade Option

If you’re planning to race on Nintendo Switch 2, Sega has confirmed a few key details. The Switch 2 version of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will launch digitally in holiday 2025, with a physical version arriving in early 2026. The full base game will be on the cartridge, so you won’t need to download extra content outside of patches or updates.

For those starting on the current Nintendo Switch, there’s a $10 upgrade pack available. It lets you carry over both your content and progress to the Switch 2 version. This makes it easy to start racing now and switch platforms later without losing anything.

Gadgets, Crossovers, and Launch Plans

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches September 25, 2025, for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, the Epic Games Store, and Nintendo Switch. The Nintendo Switch 2 version follows later, with a digital release planned for holiday 2025 and a physical release in early 2026.

The game is also leaning into crossovers this time around, with characters like SpongeBob SquarePants joining the race. We covered how that all came together during the Kids’ Choice reveal in this article.
