Team NINJA has officially declared 2025 as the “Year of the Ninja,” kicking it off with two significant announcements during Xbox’s Developer_Direct. After a 13-year hiatus, Ninja Gaiden 4 is set to release this fall, co-developed by Team NINJA and PlatinumGames. To celebrate the series’ return, a remastered version of Ninja Gaiden 2, titled Ninja Gaiden 2 Black, is now available.
The Return of Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden 4 marks a new chapter in the iconic action series. The game introduces Yakumo, a new protagonist tasked with battling through a transformed, cyberpunk-inspired Tokyo in the wake of the Dark Dragon’s return. Fans of the series will be pleased to know that Ryu Hayabusa, the franchise’s legendary ninja, plays a pivotal role in the story and will also be a playable character.
The game promises to stay true to the series’ roots with challenging, fast-paced combat while introducing new mechanics, such as rail and wire-based traversal, to enhance the sense of adversity and momentum. Yakumo’s unique Bloodraven Form adds large-scale, high-damage attacks, bringing fresh depth to the gameplay.
The collaboration between Team NINJA, PlatinumGames, and Xbox Game Studios has been key to bringing this new installment to life. The developers emphasized their shared commitment to delivering an experience that respects the series’ legacy while introducing new players to the world of Ninja Gaiden. PlatinumGames’ expertise in fluid action games complements Team NINJA’s focus on precision and difficulty, creating a balanced and exhilarating gameplay experience.
Ninja Gaiden 2 Black Now Available
In addition to the Ninja Gaiden 4 reveal, Team NINJA surprised fans with the immediate release of Ninja Gaiden 2 Black on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series. The game is also now available via Xbox Game Pass and Xbox Cloud Gaming. This remastered version aims to preserve the challenge and intensity of the original 2008 release while incorporating modern enhancements.
