The First Descendant Celebrates its Anniversary With a Major Update

To mark its first anniversary, The First Descendant hosted a special livestream event titled Descendant Fest 2025. During the event, NEXON revealed major content updates coming to the looter-shooter. Headlining the event were details on the Season 3: Breakthrough update. This included a collaboration with NieR: Automata and the release of a new roadmap outlining the game’s direction for the remainder of 2025.

Launching August 7, Breakthrough introduces the expansive new Axion Plains zone, the Hover Bike vehicle, and a challenging 8-player Colossus Field Raid against the Wall Crasher. This massive boss has devastating area attacks. A new Descendant named Nell will also join the roster. She uses telekinetic abilities to mark enemies and support allies. Her abilities offer flexible builds suited for both offense and support playstyles.

Another highlight of the presentation was the announcement of the first crossover event with NieR: Automata. Characters 2B and A2 will appear in the game via new skins and animations for select Descendants. This marks the franchise’s debut appearance in The First Descendant.

The Future of The First Descendant

The Season 3 demo goes live on July 24, giving players a preview of the upcoming content. This includes access to Nell, the Hover Bike, and battles against the Legion of Breach. A new Descendant Boost Up event, also launching August 7, will allow players to skip ahead to the mid-game Sigma Sector. These players will have appropriately tuned gear and difficulty settings. A parallel Boost Path will guide new players through the game’s systems to ease onboarding.

Looking ahead, NEXON also shared a detailed roadmap that includes more Descendants, new dungeons, and ongoing feature updates. The First Descendant Companion App is now available on iOS and Android. It allows players to track their progress, view item information, and receive notifications. Future updates will introduce interactive elements like initiating research from the app.
