Ubisoft Has Pulled The Plug For This Year
Ubisoft has confirmed to Gamefiles Stephen Totilo that they will not be hosting their Ubisoft Forward event this year.
A company rep from Ubisoft told Totilo that they will instead have a presence at the PC Game Show and IGN Live during this week’s Summer Games Fest. They will also be present at Gamescom 2025.
The rep stated:
“We are always eager to connect with our players and showcase our games….We are continuing to explore opportunities to share updates, and we look forward to providing more information at a later date.”
Looking at possible reasons for Ubisoft making this move, I think it is simply a case of them not having enough content that is ready to show at this point. Not enough to fill up a complete showcase.
Earlier this year, they, of course, were hit with studio closures and layoffs. Then, just a few months ago, they formed a new subsidiary with Tencent to ringfence certain franchises, including Assassin’s Creed.
If you add that they have also just shuttered their online FPS title XDefiant, which they hoped would rival Call of Duty, then you can start to paint the picture that Ubisoft is a company going through a turbulent period.
Of course, Ubisoft still does have content in the pipeline. There is an expansion coming soon for Assassin’s Creed Shadows. They are also hard at work on the next titles in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, which include a remake of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed Hexe (codename). Hexe aims to be a different style of Assassin’s game, based on Witches and perhaps with a more horror feel to it.
