Good news! It looks like Atari Recharged will be returning to the clouds via a partnership with Utomik.
Before Stadia’s untimely demise, the platform had a really good thing going with Atari. It was a great match, Stadia’s mediocre sized library allowed Atari’s Recharged titles to really shine. Even the games that released just a week before the store shutdown sold well over 1,000 copies, as evidenced by their leaderboards. The games that went into Stadia Pro were played by over 10,000 Stadians!
The Atari Recharged games are simple, yet very fun and addictive! The Stadia community had quite the time fighting to get to the top of the leaderboards. The Utomik platform also supports platform achievements – something these titles have a rich amount of.
Here is what Utomik says about the partnership in an email they recently sent out to subscribers:
We’re extremely proud and excited to announce: Atari is coming to Utomik! Later this month, on February 24th, you’ll be able to play the first wave of Atari games on the platform. Four games will be added to the library, with more to come.
Atari has been and continues to be an icon in the video game industry, with many millions having enjoyed their games over the years. Though their classics age like fine wine, this selection of games has been recharged. They’ve been reimagined, tweaked, polished and optimized and are now ready to be played by gamers worldwide.
Which Games?
While we don’t know the exact games coming, it sounds like this is an ongoing partnership. The description of the titles as being “reimagined” gives us confidence that we are at least talking about the “Recharged” versions of Atari games.
On Stadia, we ended up with 6 titles including Centipede, Yars, Asteroids, Breakout, Black Widow and Gravitar. We think it is likely that some of these end up on Utomik’s all-you-can-eat play subscription plan.
With Utomik, not all games in the subscription are currently available via the cloud (though more and more are adding cloud support each month), but we think these are pretty safe bets as most new games do join the cloud. Plus, Atari itself has a history of supporting the cloud.
