Wednesday, April 10th: The Vietnamese Government ordered Netflix to cease its video game service in Vietnam, including the downloading of games from mobile stores and advertising these games as well. This is a blow to Netflix’s still-growing gaming division, so let’s go over what’s happened.
Here’s What’s Happened In Vietnam
The Vietnam Authority Of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) has demanded that Netflix Games cease all operations in Vietnam by April 25th. It’s important to note that this does not affect Netflix, besides the removal of the video games. The official statement from The Vietnam Authority Of Broadcasting and Electronic Information (ABEI) reads:
We order Netflix to stop advertising and publishing the Netflix’s video games on the Netflix application and on the Appstore Vietnam and Google Play Store Vietnam before April 25th.

This is a setback for Netflix, which only started to release games on mobile back in 2021. The main concern for the Vietnam Government seems to be “online game services”.
What Does This Mean?
For now, this doesn’t mean much, other than Netflix might have to remove their games from their app in Vietnam. This does not mean Netflix can’t find a way to still provide games to their Vietnamese customers in the future, whether that be by following new policies or licensing their games to another platform. For now, though, we will have to wait and see how Netflix responds to the Vietnamese Government.
