What Does This Mean?:

Mike Verdu, who joined Netflix back in 2021 to head up its gaming division, has announced he is stepping down as VP of Games at Netflix. Verdu has previously served roles at Electronic Arts (EA) and Facebook. It has been confirmed that Mr. Verdu will remain in charge of his current position until a successor is found. This news comes as a surprise. It could have something to do with a shift in strategy at Netflix when it comes to the kind of games they make. Specially as they ramp up their position within the video game industry,

I am so proud of what we’ve accomplished, and excited to start a new team at Netflix on the cutting edge of game innovation. New technologies have always been key to creativity in games development and as an entrepreneur at heart this initiative is right in my happy place.

Mike Verdu, Current VP of Games at Netflix

Since taking the role as VP of Games at Netflix, Mike Verdu has grown the studio count from zero to six, which included setting up two brand-new studios. One in California and one in Helenski, Finland. The other four studios are ones Netflix acquired. Including the likes of Night School Studio, Next Games, Boss Fight Entertainment and Spry Fox. Verdu has also helped Netflix grow its mobile game offerings to over one hundred games. He also helped with the beta of Netflix Cloud Gaming. Hopefully, his successor will invest more in cloud gaming than Verdu did.
