Fans of retro-inspired first-person shooters, rejoice! Just shy of its second anniversary, Auroch Digital’s Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is getting a sequel. The announcement came during this year’s Warhammer Skulls Showcase, bringing good news for those who have already blasted their way through the original
What to Expect from Boltgun 2
While a firm release date is still under wraps, Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 is slated for a 2026 launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Players will once again step into the boots of the legendary Space Marine Malum Caedo as he embarks on a mission to eradicate heretics in never-before-seen locations within the Warhammer 40,000 universe.
The sequel promises to build upon the gritty, adrenaline-pumping action of the first game, delivering even more classic FPS mayhem. Expect a formidable arsenal of weapons to unleash upon new and familiar foes, including Nurglings, Chaos Cultists, and fresh adversaries like Bloodletters and Juggernauts. Adding to the excitement, Boltgun 2 will reportedly feature a branching campaign, with player choices leading to unique levels.
Cloud Gaming Prospects
Given the nature of the game and its predecessors, it’s highly likely that Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will be playable in the cloud upon release. Anticipate its potential availability on services like GeForce NOW (GFN) and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It’s worth noting, however, that while it might be on Xbox Cloud platforms, this doesn’t automatically mean it will be a Game Pass title at launch.
Catch Up on the Original
With Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 still some time away, there’s ample opportunity to experience the original Boltgun if you haven’t already. We’ve previously called it “a Retro FPS Blast from the Past” in our review and since its release, an expansion has added even more violent Space Marine action. Even if you’re not deeply familiar with the Warhammer 40,000 lore, it’s an incredibly fun and accessible game.
