Fatshark’s latest update, Nightmares & Visions, is now live in Warhammer 40,000: Darktide on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. This free update introduces Mortis Trials, a new wave-based challenge, major endgame improvements, an Ogryn talent tree rework, and a time-limited event. To celebrate the update, Darktide is 50% off on Steam for a limited time.
Here’s everything new in Nightmares & Visions.
Mortis Trials Brings Wave-Based Combat and Unlockable Lore
A major addition in Nightmares & Visions is Mortis Trials, a new in-game activity available to operatives who reach level 13. Set in visions created by Psyker Sefoni, these trials introduce 12 escalating waves of enemies, with every third wave introducing an objective-based challenge.
- Before each trial, you’ll choose an Indulgence, a buff that shapes your playstyle:
- Pyrokinetic & Voltaic – Focus on elemental damage.
- Fulminator – A balanced mix of both elements.
- Death Dealer – Excels in close-range combat.
- Colossus – Prioritizes survivability.
Success rewards you with supplies, stronger buffs, and new lore entries that reveal hidden stories about the Mourningstar’s key characters.
Endgame Overhaul: Havoc Mode Gets New Mutators & Rank Adjustments
Nightmares & Visions also introduces a significant overhaul to Havoc Mode, adding new mutators, progression changes, and a rotating challenge system.
Here’s what’s changing:
- Havoc Assignment Rank Overhaul – Progression is now clearer and more rewarding, with ranks based on performance criteria instead of individual mission outcomes.
- New Campaign Rotation – Havoc Mode now features rotating mission pools and mutators, ensuring greater variety in each session.
- Rank Reset Adjustment – Players will have their Havoc rank reset to the nearest threshold based on their highest rank achieved since launch.
New Mutators:
- Heinous Rituals – Heretics summon a new Daemonhost unless stopped.
- The Encroaching Garden – Certain enemies heal their allies unless taken out quickly.
- Rampaging Enemies – Fallen foes buff nearby allies, making tactical positioning essential.
- Enraging Elites – Injured Elites become faster, stronger, and immune to crowd control.
Ogryn Talent Tree Rework Expands Build Options
The Ogryn class receives its most significant talent tree overhaul yet, adding more viable melee, ranged, tank, and hybrid builds.
Key improvements include:
- Melee flexibility – Light and heavy attack builds are now viable.
- Tank upgrades – New abilities improve damage resistance and crowd control.
- Ranged improvements – Burst Limiter Override has been reworked for explosive and sustained fire builds.
- Movement buffs – Dodging now staggers enemies, and new passives improve Toughness regeneration.
These changes make the Ogryn more adaptable, allowing players to mix melee and ranged combat more effectively.
