Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks – A Dakka-Filled Dream

Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, developed by Caged Element Inc. and published by PLAION, is a blistering, high-octane thrill ride that perfectly captures the manic energy of the 41st Millennium. It’s more than just a racing game; it’s a full-blown Ork Waaagh! on wheels. This game is currently in “Early Access” but whilst playing it, I have seen no real indication of that. Bear in mind though, that you may find some issues with it.

This free-to-play racing game is available on Steam and playable in the cloud via Geforce Now, AirGPU and Shadow PC. Players can jump in and experience the high-octane action without spending a penny/cent. While the game offers in-game purchases, these are currently limited to cosmetic items such as vehicle skins and character customization options. All vehicles and core gameplay elements can be unlocked through regular gameplay and completing in-game challenges. This means players can enjoy the full experience without spending real money.

Fast Cars, Big Guns, WAAAGH!

The visuals are nothing short of spectacular. The game’s gritty, industrial aesthetic is spot-on, and the Ork vehicles are lovingly detailed, right down to the last scrap of metal. Explosions are big, and the overall presentation is a feast for the eyes. And let’s not forget the frame rate – it’s as smooth as a squig on slime, even during the most chaotic races.

But it’s not just about looks; the gameplay is where Speed Freeks truly shines. The sense of speed is exciting, and the combat mechanics are satisfyingly brutal. Dodging enemy fire, unleashing a torrent of dakka, and boosting past opponents is pure, unadulterated fun. The vehicle customization is also a highlight, allowing players to build the ultimate Ork war machine.

The game’s audio design is equally impressive. The roar of engines, the crackle of gunfire, and the insane Ork chatter create an immersive soundscape that perfectly complements the on-screen action. It’s like being in the heart of a full-blown Ork invasion.

A Dakka-Filled Frenzy

Speed Freeks also nails the Warhammer 40,000 atmosphere. The Orks are as dumb and brutal as ever, and their unwavering belief in Gork and Mork is a constant source of amusement. The game’s dark, grimy world is revealed with stunning detail. And who could forget the genius touch of making purple invisible? It’s a small detail, but it adds a unique and memorable twist.

In short, Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks is a fun take on vehicular carnage. If you’re a fan of racing games, Warhammer 40,000, or just want to experience the thrill of driving a giant, metal beast through a post-apocalyptic wasteland, this game is an absolute must-play.

We also got a quick review from a member of the Ork community:
