Xbox App’s Game Purchasing Features Delayed by Legal Proceedings

Sarah Bond, Corporate Vice President at Xbox, has shared an update on the company’s plans to expand its ecosystem by enabling players to purchase games directly through the Xbox app on Android devices. The initiative, initially set to launch via the Google Play Store in the U.S., reflects Xbox’s ambition to give players more flexibility in how and where they access their games.

However, a recent temporary administrative block granted by the courts has delayed the rollout of these new features. Bond confirmed that the functionality is already built and ready to launch once a final legal decision is made.

While the update focuses primarily on purchasing games, this development could also lay the groundwork for Xbox to enhance game streaming options through its app. Currently, Xbox Cloud Gaming allows players to stream select purchased games via web browsers, suggesting that the app might one day integrate similar functionality for a more seamless mobile experience.

For now, Xbox remains committed to its “This is an Xbox” vision, while the gaming community waits to see how these changes could shape the future of gaming.
