The team behind the Metro series has a new name and a new game. 4A Games Ukraine is now Reburn, and to mark the change, the studio has revealed La Quimera, a sci-fi first-person shooter set in a dystopian Latin American metropolis.

Here’s everything we know so far about Reburn and La Quimera.

A New World, A New Direction

Forget the underground tunnels and post-apocalyptic Moscow—Reburn is heading somewhere completely different. La Quimera drops you into a massive Latin American city and its surrounding jungles, playing as a struggling private military company armed with high-tech weapons and exoskeletons. The game offers both single-player and online co-op with up to two friends.

As reported by Polygon, La Quimera is being co-created by Reburn, filmmaker Nicolas Winding Refn (Drive, Only God Forgives), and writer E.J.A. Warren. The game features both single-player and co-op gameplay, with a story-driven approach influenced by Refn’s cinematic style. There’s no release date yet, but you can wishlist it on Steam.

What Makes La Quimera Different?

Reburn isn’t just changing locations—it’s shifting its entire approach. Creative Director Oleksandr “Sasha” Kostiuk told Polygon that while the Metro games focused on rebuilding after a catastrophe, La Quimera explores something different:

“How could we end up in a dystopia built on the foundations of the modern world? Does technological progress alone guarantee societal progress?”

It’s a big question, and the game dives into real-world issues—climate change, ideological struggles, and how technology can reshape society faster than we realize. According to Kostiuk, these themes have been in development for a long time, with Refn and Warren helping shape the game’s vision.

Why the Name Change?

So why rebrand at all? CEO Dmytro Lymar explained that 4A Games Ukraine and 4A Games Malta were operating under the same name, and it made sense to separate them. 4A Games will continue developing the Metro series, while Reburn focuses on its own IP.

“The name means ‘burning again,’ but for us, it represents rebirth—a fresh start for creating original games while keeping our core values.”

What About Metro?

For Metro fans worried about what this means for the franchise—don’t be. 4A Games confirmed that work on the next Metro game is still underway, with teams in Ukraine, Malta, and remote locations handling development. The studio also has another new IP in the works.

With Reburn stepping into uncharted territory and 4A Games continuing Metro, both studios are forging ahead in their own directions.
