A new DLC is coming for free to all owners of Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla on August 2nd (we don’t see the date ourselves, but it is being reported as Aug. 2 by several outlets). It looks like it will bring especially challenging battles in a rogue-like format (a first for Assassin’s Creed). Here is the description Ubisoft provides with the announcement video:
Get ready to face the biggest challenge yet in our brand new free game mode, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla: Forgotten Saga. Dive into this rogue-lite-inspired experience as Odin battles Hel to overcome an untimely fate.
You can watch the latest video from Ubisoft on the DLC that provides 5 essential tips for surviving as long as possible:
From the video, it looks like there will be Metroidvania elements to the gameplay as well where you can power up (by beating special bosses) and progressively unlock game areas and secrets. It also seems you’ll be building up from scratch; so it shouldn’t matter how much you have progressed or leveled up in the main game.
There look to be some new really nice looking environments (in Niflheim), characters and enemies.
Valhalla is the most successful game ever in the Assassin’s Creed franchise and Ubisoft seems keen to keep the content flowing. However, it’s especially nice to see a new completely free game mode!
My backlog is already huge… please have mercy.
