Amazon Games and Glowmade Announce King of Meat Shutdown After Just Six Months

In a surprising and disappointing turn, Amazon Games has announced that King of Meat will be shutting down its servers on April 9, 2026. The dungeon-brawler, which launched in October 2025, failed to find the sustainable audience required to keep the live-service project afloat. Despite a high-profile marketing push from none-other than Amazon, and a unique premise, the title has already been delisted from digital storefronts.

According to the official statement from Amazon Games, the decision comes after a difficult evaluation of the game’s trajectory. “Despite the creativity and innovation Glowmade brought to King of Meat, the game has unfortunately not found the audience we hoped for,” the announcement reads. While we found the game’s mix of chaotic platforming and user-generated content promising in our King of Meat review, the lack of a consistent player base has ultimately led to this premature sunset.

A Pattern of Shifting Priorities

The news regarding King of Meat follows closely on the heels of another massive blow to the publisher’s portfolio. The announcement that New World: Aeternum is also scheduled to shut down. Amazon’s flagship MMO will officially go offline on January 31, 2027, with the game already being delisted from sale. This signals a significant pivot for Amazon Games as it seems to move away from internal first-party development.

Interestingly, despite Amazon owning its own cloud gaming service, King of Meat notably missed a release on Amazon Luna. This follows a frustrating trend for cloud gamers, where Amazon’s first-party titles have been largely absent from the Luna platform. For a company that owns both the content and the cloud infrastructure, the failure to integrate these titles has long been a point of contention for subscribers.

Refunds and Final Play Period

Amazon Games has confirmed that all players who purchased King of Meat will receive a full refund. This includes the base game price as well as any “Stamps” (in-game currency) purchased. Refunds are expected to be processed automatically through Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox between February 24 and April 9, 2026.

Those who already own the game can continue to play until the servers officially go dark on April 9. However, no further content updates, balance patches, or bug fixes are planned during this final period.
