Earlier this year, Blacknut launched the Blacknut Companion App, a mobile tool that turns smartphones into virtual controllers for Blacknut’s cloud gaming service on Smart TVs. Designed to remove barriers for new users and reduce the need for hardware. The app makes it possible to jump into gaming instantly using only a phone.

Multiplayer Comes to Smart TVs

Now, Blacknut has rolled out a major update to the Companion App: multiplayer support. With this new feature, up to four people can connect on a Smart TV. Allowing you to mix and match smartphones and traditional controllers in any setup. Two phones and two controllers, three controllers and a phone, or even four phones. The app is built to adapt to whatever a group has available.

This addition marks an important step for Blacknut’s push into casual and social gaming on TVs. Multiplayer has always been a core part of the living room experience. By expanding the Companion App beyond single-player use, Blacknut is making it easier for families and friends to play together. They can now do so without worrying about extra accessories.

The update also builds on a trend Blacknut highlighted earlier this year: the growing demand for cloud gaming on TVs. Almost half of Blacknut’s audience streams games on Smart TVs, and TV play grew 50% in 2024. This is why the company sees the television as a central entry point for cloud gaming.

Available across major Smart TV platforms including LG webOS, Samsung Tizen, Google TV, Android TV, and Amazon FireTV OS, the Companion App continues to evolve as part of Blacknut’s broader strategy. With more R&D updates promised for later this year, this multiplayer expansion is another step in making cloud gaming on TVs more accessible, flexible, and social.

Recent Milestones for Blacknut

This follows recent milestones, including Blacknut being pre-installed on over 100 million Smart TVs worldwide. And, Blacknut’s launch of new cloud gaming offers during LG Streaming Week 2025 across the US, Canada, Brazil, and Mexico. Blacknut was also chosen for the Shochiku Game Accelerator 2025 ahead of Tokyo Game Show, marking another important step in its global growth. Together, these developments highlight how Blacknut continues to strengthen its presence while advancing its vision of making cloud gaming accessible across regions and devices.
