Activision has announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, the next mainline entry from Infinity Ward. It launches globally on October 23, 2026 for XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Battle.net, Steam, and XBOX on PC.
Activision also confirmed Modern Warfare 4 won’t be available on Game Pass at launch. XBOX Cloud Gaming and GeForce NOW support haven’t been confirmed, so cloud availability is still an open question before launch.
Modern Warfare 4’s Campaign Centres On South Korea
Modern Warfare 4’s campaign is set around a conflict on the Korean Peninsula, where a full-scale North Korean invasion of South Korea pulls Private Park into combat. Park is a young South Korean soldier facing the war from the front line, while Captain Price returns in a separate role outside Task Force 141.
The campaign also moves between South Korea and other global locations, including Mumbai, New York, and Paris. The story continues the Modern Warfare thread around Price, Vladimir Makarov, and Task Force 141 after the events of Modern Warfare III.

Multiplayer Adds Kill Block And Ballistic Authority
In today’s announcement, we learned that Modern Warfare 4’s multiplayer will launch with 12 core 6v6 maps, along with Gunfight maps, Big War maps built for vehicle and infantry combat, and Kill Block, a battleground that changes layout between rounds with more than 500 configurations.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4’s other major multiplayer feature is Ballistic Authority. Ballistic Authority is a new multiplayer technology layer covering weapon handling, bullet trajectory, aiming behaviour, audio, field of view, and target visibility. Activision also says weapon bloom has been removed from hip-fire.
Activision also revealed that Modern Warfare 4 will include the Gunny system for weapon builds, Apex Attachments unlocked through weapon progression, and two Prestige paths. Classic Prestige resets Create-a-Class progression in exchange for increased XP earn rates and exclusive Prestige rewards. Regular Prestige restarts progression without relocking Create-a-Class content.

Platform Versions And Pre-Order Details Are Confirmed
Infinity Ward is developing the PC version of Modern Warfare 4 in partnership with Beenox. The PC version will include expanded graphics settings, performance options, upscaling, frame generation, ray tracing features, and DLSS 4.5 support.
Pre-orders are live on XBOX Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Battle.net, Steam, and XBOX on PC. Digital Standard Edition, Digital Vault Edition, and Physical Standard Edition options are available where supported. Modern Warfare 4 also won’t be available on PlayStation 4 or XBOX One. On Nintendo Switch 2, Infinity Ward is working with Digital Legends on a native version. Nintendo Switch 2 pre-order details are coming later this summer.
Pre-order bonuses include Open Beta Early Access and the Hunter Killer Operator Skin. The Vault Edition adds extra Operator packs, weapon items, BlackCell for one season, and a DMZ Deployment Bonus.
More Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Details Are Coming at XBOX Games Showcase
Activision plans to show more of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 during the XBOX Games Showcase on June 7. DMZ will be the main focus at the showcase. The returning extraction mode is coming back after its earlier beta form.
As someone who has followed Call of Duty for years, I’m more interested to see more of Modern Warfare 4 at the XBOX Games Showcase on June 7 now that the basic launch information is out there. I want to see how DMZ has changed. I want to see how the new multiplayer systems look in motion, and whether Modern Warfare 4 looks like a real step forward for Infinity Ward’s side of the series.
